3 Last Minute Valentines Day Dates

Spending your Valentine's Day dinner at a fancy-schmancy restaurant might seem like a lot of fun, but in real life it sometimes also involves overpriced meals and a hard time getting reservations. V-Day, however, doesn't have to look like the cliche in movies. Here are a few last minute V-Day date ideas:

Cook dinner together
Come up with a menu for a Valentines day dinner! It can range from breakfast for dinner to a fancy steak and scallops dinner. Go grocery shopping in the afternoon together, and then enjoy each others company as you cook.

Go ice skating and then grab hot chocolate
Lots of ice rinks will rent our ice skates, so all you have to do is show up. Afterwards, go out for some hot chocolate or coffee to warm up.

Order takeout and watch a movie
If you're leaning towards a lazy valentines, pick your favorite Chinese restaurant or pizza place, order your food, and choose a romcom on Netflix or Redbox. Cuddle up with your SO for a cozy V-Day.

How are you spending your Valentine's Day?

New Year's Resolution: Dump Your Frenemies

At some point in our lives, we have probably all had a frenemy. A frenemy is a "friend" who sometimes acts like an enemy. But how do you know she's really a frenemy and it's not all in your head? After all, she acts nice to you all the time.

Frenemies will generally act nice, but they won't want what's best for you. If she's only there when she needs something from you, she's probably not a true friend. Sometimes frenemies be overly competitive about everything: guys, who's prettier, grades in school, and random small things you might not even notice. You'll tell her you really want something, and then she'll go for it - and sometimes gets it. She'll veil an insult in a compliment and lie to get what she wants.

She's your frenemy.

The thing is, you don't really need her. In fact, your life would be better without her. She's someone who stirs up negativity, even though you might not be able to pinpoint exactly why. And this year, you want to be positive. So shed all the negativity out of your life, including your frenemy.

How? There's no need to make a big scene or deal out of it. Just gradually start easing her out of your life. Hang out with your other friends, or make new ones (I know it's easier said than done, but it's worth it!) Stop agreeing to hang out with her whenever she wants you to, and keep in mind what's best for you.

Are Lies Destroying Your Relationship?

Let’s face it: we all lie. We fib to our friends, family and even our significant others. You told your friend that you liked her new boyfriend when really, you can’t stand him. Or you told your boyfriend his video game playing doesn’t bother you, when actually it drives you insane.

According to recent studies, people lie as much as two or three times within a 10-minute time span. Lying in any relationship is risky, but especially in a romantic relationship. Trust is the fundamental piece to any relationship.

“Relationships should always be based on trust, honesty, and being open and vulnerable with another person,” says Nicole Booz, 22, a recent graduate of University of Maryland, College Park. “Once you start lying, even about little things, what will stop you from hiding things from your partner? Lying undermines the point of being in a relationship with another person. There’s no point to it.”

For decades, researchers have been trying to find the reasons behind why people lie. Overall, there are many different reasons for lying, such as your own insecurities, to protect someone else or to simply avoid the truth from coming out. For example, you lie to your boyfriend about the party you attended last night to avoid an argument. Read that again: you lied to your romantic partner. If this is a common occurrence, you might need to reevaluate some things in your relationship. Frequent lying should never be a go-to move in any committed relationship, as it means there is a larger issue under the surface.

All of us have secrets and tell lies, even if we despise dishonesty. However, like the experts say, this is no excuse to ruin your relationship. University of Massachusetts psychologist Robert Feldman agrees: “Anything that is not accurate is a lie. You can argue that a lie done to make someone else feel better is relatively minor. But they have an effect.” And, in the end, a lie is a lie, no matter the subject.

Lying should be avoided at all costs, since it could break even the strongest relationship. Research shows how badly it can hurt us personally, and more importantly, our significant others. While lying might seem normal, keep in mind that it can easily turn ugly.

What Taylor Swift’s Romances Can Teach Us About Our Own

If anyone has learned a thing or two about love and relationships throughout the years, it’s Taylor Swift. She has dated, fallen in love, gotten her heart broken and then written songs about each man who has done her wrong. There’s something we can all learn from Taylor’s relationships experiences...

Joe Jonas
Taylor and Joe Jonas dated way back in the day, but they were one of the cutest couples around at the time. However, this romance is famous for one main reason: Jonas broke it off with Taylor via a 30-second phone call. Taylor used this as the inspiration for her song “Forever & Always” on her sophomore album Fearless. Jonas went on to date actress Camilla Belle almost immediately after Taylor. Swift’s song “Better Than Revenge” is rumored to be directed at the actress for stealing Jonas away from her! Talk about first love trauma! If we can learn anything from this relationship, it’s that they’re called first loves for a reason: there’s more to look forward to after it ends.

Taylor Lautner
Many Taylor (Swift) fans believed that this relationship was the one to break the odds. The two Taylors began dating after filming together on the set of "Valentine’s Day." After this it seemed the couple was inseparable. But the courtship was short lived, ending in December 2009. While she won’t openly admit it, Swift apologizes to Lautner for breaking his heart in her hit single “Back to December.”

Swift fans can relate to this track about Lautner.

“She regrets breaking up with him,” said Heather Sander, 22. “Everyone has that one guy they realize they should have stayed with after the fact when it’s all too late.”

From this relationship, we can learn that all love (even the strongest) can end without warning, but we should never forget to apologize if we’re the one breaking it off.

Jake Gyllenhaal
Rebound relationships are not uncommon. Taylor’s whirlwind fling with Jake Gyllenhaal has been dubbed her rebound relationship from her split from Taylor Lautner.

“You could see that this was just a fling that wasn’t going anywhere serious,” said Emily Ward, 18.

However, rebound relationships can keep our minds busy while we’re still healing from our previous dating endeavor.

John Mayer
You’ve heard Taylor’s song “Dear John” on her Speak Now album and still can’t help but wonder if it’s really about John Mayer. Whether the song was written for the notorious serial dater or not, Taylor and Mayer have had some serious chemistry in the past. And, if the song was truly about Mayer, we can take something from this “relationship”: guard your heart from trouble when necessary (A.K.A. when the guy is a known player).

Conor Kennedy
While Taylor’s most recent flame is only 18 years old, it’s evident she fell head-over-heels. Some die-hard Taylor fans are on the fence with this relationship, but most show support for the 22-year-old singer.

“This relationship seems genuine, like she’s ready to love again,” said Sander. “She had low expectations, but he proved her wrong and was everything she was looking for to make her smile again.”

This relationship shows us that new beginnings can bring unexpected happiness.

When it comes to Taylor Swift and relationships, you never know what you’re going to get (besides a new song). But like all relationships, there is always something new to learn. Whether we’re mending our own broken hearts or learning how to love again, we will always have our past loves to thank for it.

5 Date Ideas For Under $25

For most college students, expensive nights on the town are probably out of the question. Nonetheless, living on a shoestring budget doesn’t mean you can’t go on awesome dates -- it just means you have to be a little more creative. Here are a few ideas.

Rent a Movie

The cost of catching a weekend flick can add up once you factor in admission, pop, popcorn and other goodies. Instead, rent a video or borrow one from one of the greatest things invented since sliced bread, Redbox, for only $1. Make your own popcorn (microwave is nice and easy!), buy a case of pop for the same price of one small drink at the movie theatre and watch the movie in your own private home theatre. If you have time, start in the afternoon and do a movie marathon -- scary movies are the best excuse for holding your date close.

Share appetizers and desserts

The appetizers and desserts are the best part of the meal anyways, aren’t they? At most chain restaurants like Chili’s, Applebee's, and T.G.I Friday’s, appetizer and dessert portions are pretty big, making it easy to share with your date. This can easily keep costs low, but fun and conversation at an all time high.

Explore the outdoors like a child

Rediscover the fun of childhood and have a picnic. Or better yet go to the store, buy your favorite childhood candy and head to the playground. The evening is an ideal time for this kind of date as all real children are home and tucked in bed, leaving the whole place free for you! Chase each other around the park or sit down and draw in the sand. Sit on the swings, eat your candy and share with each other some of your childhood memories to get to know each other better.

Go for a walk

A leisurely stroll in the summer in the park or around the neighborhood, a stroll through the autumn leaves or a brisk walk in the winter is refreshing. End off with an iced drink, hot cocoa or hot cider, depending on the season.

School events

It may seem cheesy to go to a school event, but think of it as a pre-paid perk of your student fees. Take your date to see an independent band, play a game of bingo, see a student play or attend a sports game -- whatever event your school may have that night. It also provides an opportunity to win prizes, which could lead to further cheap dates. The same applies for community events, which are usually advertised at local stores or online.

If all else fails, stay on the lookout for local eateries and shops that offer discounts with your student ID and save on dinner or gifts. Even places like gas stations have rewards programs that you can redeem towards various items -- maybe you could use points toward gas for a romantic getaway or use them toward gift cards to restaurants.

College Traveler: Dating and Mating in London

If you ever venture into the self-help dating section of a bookstore, you’re sure to find a few books about dating rules. You can learn how to think like man but act like a lady, find out what Jane Austen would do, understand why you’re not married or find love in 30 days. While each book promises a new and improved way of thinking, acting and/or going about getting that ever-so-coveted relationship, one strong rule remains true: wait.

You must wait two dates before you kiss, wait for him to hold your hand, wait to have sex and wait to say those three precious words. Everything is about waiting. However, the opposite seems to be true in London. All you need to know is that whoever can get to the gold first there, wins.

Men are generally known for being the pursuers. But not in London! There, women are just as likely to approach a guy and take the lead. I’ve seen a number of girls introduce themselves to a guy simply because they found him attractive. This definitely clashes with the American ideal of the man taking the lead and introducing himself first!

As for the norm in how the British begin dating, there seems to be two ways: either you know each other and someone finally pipes up and lets the other person know they’re interested (probably via text), or two people have met randomly and the guy or girl approached the person of interest and gave them their number. Courting is very informal, and while I’d like to say their way is more difficult, it seems to be ... fun, actually.

There is no waiting around for “so and so” to figure out you’re the girl of his dreams. Dating someone is light and fun, and you figure out if you click. If you do, things happen on their own.

If you don’t really know each other and just met somewhere like a club, there is typically a preliminary coffee date just to make sure you’re not crazy. Once he knows you’re sane, he’ll contact you to go out on a date or to “see each other again.”

Attention, ladies: the British strongly believe in not leading someone on. If a Londoner isn’t interested, he won’t pretend that he is. Heck ... he may not even be nice about it. But if he is interested, he’ll be knocking at your door for a coffee date. So really, you can’t lose.

How Fictional Romances Could Be Ruining Your Relationship

Heads up, TV lovers! A recent study released from Albion College in Michigan found that you could be less committed to your own relationship if you buy into the fictional romances on your favorite television shows.

According to RelaxNews, researchers sampled 390 married couples and asked them to respond to questions based on their “current relationship, relationship expectations, commitment and television habits and beliefs.”

Overall, the results were shocking. Participants who possessed a higher belief in fictional romances on television were less committed to their partners. These participants also saw being single as a pleasurable alternative to a lack of happiness in their relationship. The researchers found that the participants thought their relationships were costing them their individual freedoms.

Lead psychologist on the study, Dr. Jeremy Osborn, said in an interview with RelaxNews that he wants people in all relationships to learn from this study: “My hope would be that people would read this article and take a look at their own relationships and the relationships of those around them.”

Osborn truly believes that images on television can harm even the most at-ease psyche.

“We live in a society that perpetually immerses itself in media images from both TV and the web, but most people have no sense of the ways those images are impacting them,” Osborn said in the interview.

Like Dr. Osborn suggests, individuals in serious relationships should try to become less involved in the trivial (and fictional) matters that comprise television romances. They’re fun to watch but, in hindsight, these romances are not reality. So, think it over next time before you ooh! and ahh! over "Gossip Girl’s" Chuck and Blair and their (sexy, but extremely dysfunctional) relationship. It might just be costing you yours!

College Traveler: Spooky End of October Date Ideas

In true Halloween spirit, one of the best dates I’ve had in London has been daring to enter the London Dungeons for a spooky, thrilling and scream-worthy experience. Not only did I get up close and personal with my guy, but Jack the Ripper made an appearance and I was sent to the gallows! Without age-old dungeons to explore in your hometown, there are still plenty of ways to have a fun date that will terrify both of you, all while bringing you closer together.

Haunted Walking Tours are a fun and easy way to get your scare on. You typically meet at a central point and a tour guide takes you and a group throughout your city, pointing out all the haunted locations, telling spooky stories and letting you in on a few haunted facts. These tours are usually at night and can last up to two hours. They’re a fun, easy way to learn some not-so-PG facts about your city!

Haunted Events are much like haunted tours, except you’re brought to one location such as a haunted prison, mansion, castle or building. You and your man can explore the different rooms with a group of people. Experience sudden bangs, the bone chilling sound of macabre children’s laughter and maybe even see a ghost! These kinds of events can either be day-long events or span over a wonderfully creepy weekend. It all depends on what kind of a fear seeker you are!

You’ve definitely heard of the board game Clue. Murder Mystery is Clue brought to life and an interesting way to get in on the spooky fun. Play a character, act out your role and figure out who killed who! Hotels and bed & breakfasts host these weekend events throughout the year, so remember to pack an overnight bag and a flashlight!

If you’re feeling super adventurous, try dinner in the dark! Grab some blindfolds, invite a few couples over and make a night of it. Remember the lights are not an option! After dinner, pop in an old horror movie and cuddle up.

If you’re looking to spruce up your love life, these timely seasonal date ideas will do the trick -- a scary date is the perfect excuse to cuddle closer to your date! What are your favorite ways to celebrate Halloween with your special someone?

How to Keep Love Alive with Compromise

In theory, compromising in relationships seems like an easy concept: “If we go see a movie I like this week, then next week we can see one that you like,” or, “If you buy dinner tonight, I’ll pay for it next time.” Couples must make simple compromises like these everyday to get along and stay together. Here are a few tips for using compromise to keep your relationship fresh and healthy.

Compromising is important to keep the happiness in your relationship.
Compromise is a part of daily life -- romantic or otherwise. If you choose not to compromise, it can only lead to dissatisfaction in your relationship. According to research psychologists at Psychology Today, compromising is effective in small doses. And, without it, you could be in for a long, tiring relationship rollercoaster. Take the initiative, make the sacrifice and move on. You’ll spend less time irritated, promising your friends you are officially swearing off guys, and more time feeling happy and enjoying your sweetie.

If he won’t compromise with you, you may need to deploy those four dangerous words: “We need to talk.”
Making sacrifices for the person you’re dating should become a natural thing in any long-term relationship. Uh oh, your boyfriend won’t run out for the Sunday morning coffee when it’s clearly his turn. You grabbed it the past four times. What starts off as something small can turn serious if it continues. Couples could begin to resent each other, creating more problems for the relationship’s health. Randi Gunther, a marriage counselor and contributor for Psychology Today, agrees: “Over time [couples] can seriously compromise their personal integrity and then silently hate their partners for accepting their sacrifices.”

If this sounds familiar, you may not have a reason to worry, but you should consider talking about it with your guy. Chances are he had no clue this was even bothering you. Sometimes, the men in our life are clueless and just need a little push! But, if your love interest just isn’t willing to compromise with you, it might be time to find someone who is ready to be in the equal partnership you deserve.

Communicate openly and often.
Learning to openly communicate is your ticket to relationship heaven. For instance, if your significant other has experienced any negativity in his past love life (and let’s face it, who hasn’t?), talk to him about it. If he’s feeling insecure, ask him if he’s willing to share his thoughts. When you’re feeling uncomfortable, you sometimes shut down and become distant to your partner, according to Dr. Phil.com. Speaking freely not only opens the doors to more compromise, but allows for a new realm of trust and communication. If there’s anything more important than learning how to make sacrifices for the one you love, it’s learning to trust each other and communicate openly about your feelings.

Ultimately, we’re all a little selfish sometimes. But without a give-and-take attitude, it is impossible to be happy in any relationship. Compromising is totally worth it and can make the love last.

You Have His Number: Now What?

We all know the familiar feeling of that first text to your crush. The butterflies, the time you spend crafting the perfect message—even when it’s just saying hi—and throwing the phone away in suspense as soon as you hit send. Talk about a crazy, life experience, right?

I’m sure it sounds familiar, but whenever the new guy pops up on your cell phone screen, you freeze. You have to realize that communication through texting won’t be all that will help you win him over. You have to actually—gasp—talk in person. But first, learn how to flirt your way through text to win this stud over.

Use your first initial response:

When you get a reply from him, reply normally. Don’t spend ten minutes going over your response or second guess it. Most of the time, your initial response will be enough to keep the conversation going, and it will let him see more of the real you, not the crafted you.

Don’t say things in text that you wouldn’t say in person:

We all either experienced or heard about those guys who say the most obscene things in text, but then as soon as you see them in person, they don’t say a peep. What you need to do is avoid anything that he could use against you later, or alter his impression of you. Use texting for flirting, but don’t go overboard.

Arrange to actually hang out and talk in person:

You can’t text forever. Eventually, you and this guy will actually have to stop hiding behind your phones, and speak face to face. Still shaking in your boots? Just don’t sweat it, if you two can flow conversation in text, then you should be able to manage a conversation in public. Just be confident and relaxed, he’ll follow.

Don’t reply right away:

Guys like a little mystery. If you’re responding at the speed of lightening, he will probably get bored, and see you as too easy to get. Give him a chase by taking your time to respond to his message. Obviously, don’t make him wait hours, but wait at least five to ten minutes. This way, he’ll probably check his phone and wonder why you’re not replying, then the thought-process of curiosity begins.

Don’t use over excessive language or emotions:

No one likes a person who’s excessively hyper all the time. And so, the same goes for texting. When you’re sending a message, don’t be completely over excessive like: “OMG, HI! How are you?!?!!!!?” Obviously, most of us know texting etiquette, but sometimes, messages like those, can get sent. Go easy on the caps, exclamation marks and emotions. Save all that pent up energy for when you actually meet this guy in person. But then again, don’t get too crazy…

What To Do When Your Best Guy Friend Gets A Girlfriend

When a guy and a girl are best friends, some people will automatically assume that they like each other. And when the guy gets a girlfriend, suddenly the friend is classified as the other woman.

Here’s the scene: you have a best guy friend who gets a girlfriend—suddenly, it’s as if homeboy has disappeared off the face of the earth. Until, he wants you to meet her, forcing you to sit through a tortuous session of their PDA—only to have them finally take a break and actually speak to you. Well, he speaks to you, his new girl just sits and glares—sizing you up and your relationship with her new boyfriend.

I’m sure a lot of girls have been put in this situation before, where their best guy friends’ girlfriend just doesn’t approve of their close friendship. This is how to ease the situation and help this girl see the light.

Be nice and socialize:
Even when she’s being mean to you, don’t get down to her immature level. She may be a insecure and spread rumours about how you’re trying to be a little man stealer. But, by giving in to her drama, you’re being no better than her. You need to try your best to be nice to her, even if it’s a little forced in the beginning. Don’t be a suck up, just try to go a little out of your way to get her to warm up to you.

Make sure that she knows that there's nothing fishy going on:
If you want to spend time with him, then you’ve got to find a way to get her off your back. This can simply be done by letting her strictly know what your intentions are and are not. Explain the close friendship with her. If she really isn’t giving in, then let her know that you sincerely just see him as a brother, and doing anything with him would be so… ugh. For extra effect, say it with a sickened face and shiver.

Fill your life with other friendships/relationships:
If your best guy friend is willing to ditch you for his new girlfriend, no matter how close you two are, then he’s not worth it. Seek out other friendships with other guys, and maybe even fill your life with a boo of your own. And if that person happens to be one of his best guy friends, then well, brownie points for you girl!

Crush Crazy: Easy Ways to Make Your Move

You’ve seen him lounging around the neighborhood pool. You’ve made eye contact all over town. You’re pretty sure he’s into you and you’re definitely into him… so what’s the next step on your quest for love? Coming into the late summer, it’s finally time for you to make your move from summer crush to summer fling. Without making things too serious, these casual date ideas are the perfect way to catch your guy’s attention and keep him coming back for more.

1. Take him on a fun outdoor adventure. Most guys love to be active. Let’s face it- they love to show off their athletic ability and/or muscular build. Explore local trails on an outdoor hike, challenge him to a race around the lake or spend the day roller blading around town. Show him that you aren’t afraid to sweat!

2. Host a casual group party. Parties and large get-togethers are usually the easiest situations to turn up the flirt. Have friends over for a barbecue, bonfire or a couple hands of cards. By hosting your own party, you have control over who you invite (keep the guy/girl ratio is similar) and what activities you do. It also gives him the chance to compliment you on being such a great host.

3. Get your hair wet at the beach. Grab a cute and casual outfit, rock the beachy waves and jump in the water! Guys love to see active girls enjoying themselves in the sun instead of just laying on their beach towels. Sand volleyball, throwing a football or Frisbee and hitting the waves on a surfboard are all great ways to get his attention fast.

4. Ask him out for ice cream. Nothing says casual flirtation like a trip to the local ice cream parlor. It’s also a great way to beat the heat and show him that you aren’t afraid to splurge every once and a while. If things are already getting serious, try offering to split a sundae. See if you can beat him to the last bite!

5. Break out your cutest swimsuit and spend the afternoon at the pool. Show off all the time you spent being active and enjoy some quiet time at the pool. If you break out an intriguing novel or accidentally play your iPod music a little too loud, he may wander over with an easy conversation starter. If he so happens to be the lifeguard, casually cast a few splashes his way and flash your best flirty smile.

The most important, cliché tip for romantic relationships is to show him the real you. Guys, unlike many women, aren’t usually into the unnecessary drama. If you show him what makes you stand out as an incredible and unique woman, he is sure to appreciate who you are as an individual. If he doesn’t, he’s not worth it anyway.

From Hooking Up to Dating: The College Girl's Guide to College Love

If we could define college dating in Facebook terms, I feel like almost everything would go under "It's complicated." But if your friend tells you that "it's complicated," we always want to know more. So how can you tell what she means when she's talking about her new guy?

"Talking"
When you're talking to a guy, you might not even know if he likes you back yet. If you do know he likes you back, but you've only been hanging out and haven't gone on many real dates, you can still say you're talking to the guy. Either way, you're testing the waters and at least one of you is probably not 100% yet on whether they want to take the dive. Get to know the guy, and just enjoy the fact that you guys are hanging out.

"Dating"
Maybe you've had the talk about giving yourselves a label, but maybe you haven't. Either way, you've gone out with the guy more than a few times and hang out regularly. However, even if you've labelled yourselves as boyfriend and girlfriend, usually this is still in the earlier phases of the relationship.

"In a Relationship"
After you guys have been going out for awhile AND you've had the talk about becoming exclusive, you can officially say you're in a relationship! Revel in the idea that you have a guy who (hopefully) loves you and only you.

"Hooking Up"
Hooking up doesn't always mean doing the dirty, although in many cases it can. If you've hooked up with someone, it could simply mean that you made out with him (or her). This one's a little tricky! Hooking up could be a one time thing or an ongoing act.

"Friends With Benefits (FWB)"
Friends With Benefits (FWB) probably means that they are sleeping together at least semi-regularly, but don't want a relationship with each other. This is a dangerous one to get into, especially if you like the guy! Although it may work for some people, it could be a disaster.

College Dating: Three Easy Meals to Make on Date Night

Are you trying to find ways to spice things up? Why not make a home-cooked meal with your guy? Any of these easy recipes are sure to satisfy his taste buds and put a fun, new twist on date night.

If you’re dating the “All-American” kind of guy, stick to the classics, and prepare a good old- fashioned cheeseburger with his favorite kind of chips, and top it off with an ice cream sundae for dessert!

The All-American Cheeseburger

Ingredients:
  • ¼ lb. ground beef pre-made patties
  • 1 pkg. sesame seed burger buns
  • 1 pkg. American cheese
  • 1 tomato (sliced)
  • 1 head lettuce
  • 1 yellow onion (sliced)
  • 1 bag chips
  • Ketchup and mustard
*It can be garnished with a sliced pickle or store-bought potato salad (your local grocery store deli will most likely have something delicious and fresh; make sure to ask for a pound).

Preparation:

1. Preheat a frying pan to medium-high heat. You’ll know the pan is at the correct temperature if a drop of water on the pan dances on its surface rather than sticking to it. Note: There’s no need to use oil because of the ample amount of fat in the patties.

2. Once the pan gets hot, you can sprinkle in some salt and pepper, too if desired.

3. Then, place the frozen patties on the pan. Make sure they don’t thaw before putting them on the pan.

4. It will take around six minutes for the patties to cook. Cook on one side for about three minutes and then the other for the same amount of time. The patties will turn a brownish color when they are close to being done.

5. Once the patties are cooked, reduce the temperature to low, place slices of cheese on each and cover the frying pan with a lid. Watch the cheese, and once it’s melted, remove and prepare to serve.

Ice Cream Sundae

Ingredients:
  • 1 qt classic vanilla ice cream or custard
  • 1 jar hot fudge
  • Any other toppings, such as mini M&M’s, cookie dough crumbles, crushed up Oreo’s, etc.
Preparation:

1. During dinnertime, take the ice cream out and let it thaw for a bit to make it easier to dish out.

2. After dinner, scoop a healthy portion of hot fudge in a microwave-friendly bowl and heat it for around 30 seconds.

3. Pour on top of ice cream, sprinkle toppings and serve!

If your guy is more of the “Edgy-Cool” type, make him a homemade pizza (what could be more romantic?) with fresh bread and Dove ice cream miniatures garnished with fresh-raspberries for dessert.

Homemade Pizza

Ingredients:
  • 1 pkg. pre-made pizza dough
  • 1 jar marinara sauce
  • 1 pkg. shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 pkg. shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 loaf fresh bread
  • Oil & vinegar (for dipping bread)
  • 1 baking sheet (you can opt for a disposable baking sheet from your local grocery store if you prefer)
*Toppings are subject to change with your and your guy's preferences (example: if he’s a meat-lover, pepperoni only, veggie lover, etc.). When you’re making your grocery list, take into account what his favorite toppings are.

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

2. While you’re waiting, clean off a surface to roll out the dough.

3. Knead and pull the dough to flatten it into the shape of a pizza pie. Make sure you’re not too aggressive with it because the dough may tear.

4. When you get it to be the shape you want, place it on a baking sheet and start spreading the sauce. Pour a good amount of sauce onto the center of the crust and then use a spatula to spread the sauce from the inside out. Be sure to leave about an inch of sauce-free dough around the outside edges for the crust.

5. Sprinkle both types of cheese on top of the sauce. This could be fun for the two of you to do together and that way, he can add as much cheese as he wants.

6. Top it with pepperoni, sausage, veggies or whatever else he prefers. If there’s something you are super opposed to having on your pizza, you can always make it half and half.

7. Place it in the oven, and set the timer for around 20 minutes. Make sure to continuously check the pizza and remove it whenever you think it’s ready.

8. While you’re waiting for the pizza to cook, slice up the fresh bread and serve it with oil and vinegar for dipping.

Dove Dessert

Ingredients:
  • 1 variety box Dove ice cream miniatures
  • 1 pkg. fresh raspberries
Preparation:

1. After dinner, unwrap the Dove ice cream miniatures and display them nicely on a plate.

2. Then, garnish them with a sprinkling of fresh raspberries.

If your guy’s more of the “Eclectic Vegetarian” type, try making quinoa, a grain that contains essential amino acids. Accompany it with black beans and chopped red peppers, a Caesar salad, and complete it with a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich for dessert.

Quinoa Dish

Ingredients:
  • 1 pkg. yellow Quinoa (available at select stores only, so it’s important to do your research first)
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 jar salsa
  • 1 pkg. bagged Caesar salad
Preparation:

1. For directions on how to prepare the quinoa, view the back of the package. They take you through an easy step-by-step process to follow.

2. While you’re waiting for the quinoa to cook, drain the black beans and make sure to rinse them, and then chop up the red peppers.

3. Fix up the salad. The dressing, croutons and cheese are all included in the bag.

4. When the quinoa is done, stir in the black beans and red peppers. Then you can add the salsa as a sauce to the quinoa concoction if desired.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich
Ingredients:
  • 1 pkg. large chocolate chip cookies
  • 1 qt vanilla ice cream
  • Saran Wrap
Preparation:

*This is best done a few hours before dinner so the ice cream has time to freeze again.

1. With the ice cream thawed, take one cookie and spoon in a substantial amount of vanilla ice cream. Spread it thick with a knife, so that it covers the entire surface of the first cookie.

2. Place the second cookie on top to finish the sandwich. You can take a knife around the edge of the cookie to smooth out the ice cream on the sides.

3. Package it tightly in saran wrap and put it in the freezer for later.

Whatever kind of guy your man is, he’s sure to like one of these scrumptious concoctions! So get cooking! Leave a comment to let us know what recipe is your favorite.

College Dating: Are Out-of-State Internships An Excuse to Call It Quits?

Internships are single-handedly the most important opportunities in college, and you should take advantage of one ASAP! If you do your research, you’ll find that your school typically offers them locally, nationally and sometimes even globally. The problem with an internship on the national or global scale is that it might mean trouble in paradise for your relationship.

If you or your guy has accepted an internship out-of-state (or the country), it’s important to discuss whether or not you want to stay together and ‘go the distance.’ When making this decision, it’s crucial to remember that college is a place to grow and develop yourself as a person and not only for your future career, but also for life in general. Internships allow you to learn about potential career opportunities within your field of study while discovering who you are as a person.

With that in mind, ask yourself, “Is dating this guy during my internship going to be a negative distraction?” If yes, then you know what you need to do because this is the time in your life when you can’t afford to sell yourself short. If the answer is no, then stay together and make it work (we have FaceTime and Skype for a reason!). Now, if the roles are reversed and he’s the one who is leaving, the situation gets a little trickier. If he gives you no choice and is headstrong about breaking up, I’m sorry to say that there isn’t a whole lot you can do.

Long distance relationships take trust with not only the person you’re dating, but also with yourself. It takes maturity and the confidence that you believe in each other enough to know that your relationship is worth the commitment. If one of you isn’t ready for that, it’s probably better that you break up now instead of waiting for that dreaded phone call (or worse a text) saying they cheated on you.

Whatever your situation may be, before one of you leave, make sure you’re both clear on where you stand as a couple. Distance can result in a communication breakdown, especially if you’re texting. But if you clearly establish where your head is at, it will make things a lot easier for everyone involved.

Breakups are never fun, especially when you’re crazy about the person, but sometimes they’re necessary. Just make sure that if one of you decides to break up, you’re doing it for the right reasons and not just because it’s the easy way out. You never know...distance could make the heart grow fonder or you could find a new hottie who makes your heart flutter and head spin all over again.

Should You Move in with Your Other Half?

On the fence about whether or not moving in with your guy is the best idea? While it may seem daunting to compile all of your belongings into the same apartment, share a bed every night and spend almost every moment together, there are many positives when it comes to living with your man. Read on for a few reasons why you should take the big leap...

1. You Save Money

Having an apartment with one bedroom makes rent go down dramatically. Plus, you and your guy will start to share pretty much everything—from laundry detergent to vodka and groceries.

2. Every Night is Date Night

Snuggling in front of the TV and ordering in Chinese while you watch your latest Netflix delivery is just as romantic as a night on the town. Light a few candles, pour a glass of wine and it automatically becomes the perfect date night.

3. You Can Get a Pet Together

With two people in and out to take care of a cat or dog, having a pet is much easier when you’re cohabiting. Just think of how fun it would be to snuggle in bed on a Sunday morning with your kitty, or take your puppy for a walk and then grab brunch on the weekends.

4. You Won’t Need to Schedule “Boyfriend Time”

Living with your guy means you see him in the morning and at night everyday of the week, which means getting out to meet the girls on the weekend is easier. You no longer have to struggle with choosing between your guy and the girls.

Independence is a virtue, but sometimes it’s okay to go a little soft. Just think about all the snuggling and simple moments that will make you love him even more!

*Note from the Editor: Although living together can be a wonderful experience, it will also change the dynamics of your relationship. Make sure you're ready to take this step before taking the plunge!

How to Avoid Falling Into the Texting Trap

You meet a new guy, conversation ensues, and cell phone numbers are swapped. Now what?

While cell phones have undoubtedly helped the world connect, they have also given us a tool that can be both helpful and dangerous in the world of dating: the text message. Texting can be hazardous during the first few weeks of dating. We give our take on when to text and when to step away from your Blackberry:

Let him be the first text. It is a common myth among men that women are crazy text-addicts. Prove him wrong by abstaining from contacting him. It may be tempting to shoot him a quick text, but it is important to let him come to you. Keep an air of mystery, ladies.

If he does text you, keep it light. Allow him to set up the first date over text message, but don’t start having in-depth conversations. This is a trap most of us tend to fall into, because we are so anxious to keep the conversation going. He will not lose interest if you cut the conversation short after a little back-and-forth. If anything, this type of texting will heighten his interest. Plus, you don’t want to risk running out of things to talk about on your first date!

Give him the opportunity to call you. If you're comfortable with talking on the phone, say something along the lines of, “Hey, why don’t you give me a call later today and we can chat then?” Try and get in voice time to get him in the mindset to ask you for a second date by phone.

Don't let text messaging be your life raft. If he isn’t texting or calling you do not, we repeat, DO NOT bombard him with text messages. The worst thing you can send to a guy is a “Hey, what’s up” text message. It’s easy to ignore, it can be slightly annoying, and the most common response is a “not much, you?”

We’re not saying you have to take a completely passive role. Sometimes men can be a little clueless. Give him a few days to text you after the first or second date. If he doesn’t, and you’re really interested in hanging out again, shoot him a text recalling something that made him think of you and propose a casual date. Say something like, “Hey I heard ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’ on the radio and laughed thinking of you singing karaoke to it the other night. Want to grab coffee on Saturday?”

If he answers yes, great. If he says no or makes up some lame excuse, cut your losses and move on, sister. We promise, there are plenty of other fish in the sea. By following these simple rules, you might avoid falling into the texting trap.

Studying Abroad: What to Do About Your Relationship?

Most college aged females either know of someone or know a story or two about a long distance love gone array. Whether it’s a wandering eye, thirst for freedom, or fading love, after all the excuses, only one essential ingredient is missing: communication.

Spring semester is a popular time to study abroad, yet leaving behind a lover can make things complicated. How do you enjoy your hot nights in fabulous Italia when you have to race home for a Skype date? While the seven plus hour difference may make things difficult, you and your beau should talk candidly about the upcoming temptations and time commitments. Being open with each other before you jet off is essential if you want the relationship to last.

Tip #1:
Talk to your boy and make sure you are both on the same page BEFORE you leave for your sexy semester abroad.

Although living in the moment is key to enjoying your once in a lifetime experience, always think long and hard about crossing any boundaries.

Tip #2: If he were in the room, how would you act? This is one of the best tidbits of advice I’ve ever received. How would you feel if he were crossing a boundary and you were watching it happen?

Trusting in a few girlfriends is always a good idea. Talk to them about how much you miss him, show them cute pictures, tell them funny stories—when you let others in and think about him in small ways, it makes things easier.

Tip #3: Just because you miss him doesn’t mean every time you think of him needs to bring a flood of tears. Think about the goofy, happy times, and share a few laughs.

When you’re Skyping him make sure to let him be a part of your experience. Tell him stories and let him know that even though you’re having the time of your life, you wish he were there to experience it too. Make sure to be listening to his daily happenings, too.

Tip #4: Continue to work on your relationship and communication even when you’re thousands of miles away.

The last, and most important piece of advice is to think ahead to when you return to your normal college life. Chances are when you left your beau things were good, so putting in a little extra work abroad to communicate will only ensure that you’ll both be happy when you return.

Tip #5:
Think before you act, and more importantly, picture your future.

Make the most of both experiences: love and travel. Maybe someday you’ll both jet off to a fabulous Italian vacation together.
