Meet Kirthiga Rajanayagam, Producer of Mass Exodus

Twenty-one-year-old Kirthiga Rajanayagam is a junior fashion communication major at Ryerson University in Toronto. However, Kirthiga is more than just a student ... she is also the producer of Mass Exodus, the largest student-run fashion event in North America! The show is put on by third-year fashion promotions students to showcase graduating fashion design and fashion communication students’ final collections.

“Mass Exodus is about the leaders of tomorrow’s fashion,” says Kirthiga. “My role as producer of Mass Exodus 2013 is to ensure our teams are working collectively towards this shared vision of the show and to hopefully create a positive and lasting impression on our guests who attend the show, as an unforgettable experience!”

Putting together Mass Exodus is no simple task. “It takes the dedication, perseverance and talent from 43 students in our fashion promotions class (divided into 29 members, 9 committee heads, 5 executives), with the guidance and direction of faculty members to put this event together,” says Kithirga. “It is a planning process that begins in September and doesn’t stop until the day of the show on April 11th, 2013.”

Kirthiga is extremely passionate about Ryerson University and says that working on Mass Exodus has been an experience unlike any other. Attending Ryerson has provided Kirthiga with direction in her career and she says that now, more than ever, she’s ready to take on the fashion industry!

“After I graduate, I hope to find a career in fashion productions. I also have an interest in public relations and event planning, so I’m not settling yet. I want to see what’s out there before I decide. We’ll see where life takes me!”

Kirthiga has always loved art and design and believes her passion for fashion is one of the reasons she loves being a part of Mass Exodus so much: “I’ve always lived by the philosophy that you should be proud of who you are and to take pride in knowing you’re an original; there will never be anyone like you. So why not make the most of life, and let your clothing, words and attitude speak for themselves?”

Mass Exodus took centerstage in Toronto, April 11, showcasing 48 unique fashion design collections and 57 original capstone projects, all presented on a 150-foot runway!

Best of Beauty: Teeth Whiteners For A Hollywood Smile

One thing that makes any outfit look ten times more fabulous: a beautiful smile that showcases pearly whites!Getting the pristine, white teeth seen on celebrities may seem difficult, but it’s not out of reach! There are dozens of teeth whitening options available, from expensive whitening treatments through your dentist, to quick and affordable DIY procedures.

Crest White Strips are one of the best-known whitening systems on the market. Crest offers a variety of ways to go white, from express packages that only take a few minutes to more advanced 24-hour kits. Crest Whitestrips are available at most drug stores and, most importantly, are affordable for college girls.

iWhite whitening kits are another fantastic option for college girls looking to freshen up their teeth. iWhite products leave teeth up to eight shades lighter and remove stains, all while strengthening teeth! All iWhite kits are hydrogen-peroxide-free, which means they won’t cause nasty damage to your teeth, rather just instantly give them a light and sparkly glow.

If you’re a little freaked out by the idea of buying a teeth whitening kit and are worried you won’t have the time to devote to giving your teeth the treatment they need, Listerine’s Whitening Strips are the perfect option! These super cheap strips quickly dissolve in your mouth, leaving your breath fresh, and working to lighten the color of your teeth. These strips are less intimidating than the intense whitening kits, plus they can easily fit into your busy college lifestyle (just pop one in while walking to class or strolling across campus).

Meet Up-And-Coming Pop Star Miasha

Twenty-four-year-old New York City-based pop artist Miasha has never been confused about what she wanted to do with her life. The fashion-loving musician has been singing since she could talk and has always had a thing for the stage.

“When we were very young, my sister and I were constantly putting on shows and singing,” Miasha said. “While the grown-ups were finishing dinner, we would make up dance routines and lip sync to the Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys.”

Music has been a part of Miasha’s life forever: “I was exposed to a lot of great female singers, from Barbara Streisand to Annie Lennox,” she remembers fondly.

As Miasha got older, her love of music grew with her, and she “would often go into [her] room, dim the lights and use a hairbrush as a mic, pretending to be a star.”

With all the passion Miasha has poured into music, it’s no surprise she was ecstatic when she released her single, “Everybody’s Beautiful.” The song is about “celebrating that uniqueness we all have,” Miasha said. “This world can be very cruel at times, but it is all about perspective. People often feel vulnerable when they dance, but when people watch other people dance, they feel happy, and they see beauty and honesty. In many ways, it is saying that the things we think make us imperfect are actually the attributes that make us the most beautiful. It’s not a new concept, but I really loved using ‘dance’ as the vehicle to deliver that.”

The tune is powerful, upbeat, peppy and great for dancing. But don’t let us have all the fun listening to Miasha’s music! Check out her track here.

Miasha has big plans for many music endeavors in the future. She hopes her career takes off in the next five years so she is able to make music and perform for thousands of fans.

College Gloss truly thinks Miasha has an amazing voice and her passion for music will take her far in the industry. We look forward to seeing what Miasha does next with her career, and we wish her the best of luck!

M: Funny and supportive. I hope!

What are some of your hobbies?
M: I love surfing, and I love yoga. I also have a thing for fashion and recently have started sketching designs and building costumes.

What is one thing your fans don’t know about you?
M: When I was younger, I won Team Gold and Individual Silver for the North American Young Riders Equestrian Show Jumping Competition.

What is the best part of being a musician?
M: I love going into the studio with my piece of paper with scratch lyrics and notes and tons of production ideas scribbled all over it ... working with such incredible producers and co-writers and musicians … and within hours, making those ideas come to life. Blows my mind every time.

What is your advice for aspiring artists?
M: Take risks, and surround yourself with people you trust and who know what they are doing, so that those risks can be rewarded. Push your boundaries, whether it be vocally or production-wise. Try and raise the bar a little each day.

Who are your favorite singers?
M: Tina Turner, Annie Lennox, Robert Plant, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Tora Fisher, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Florence Welch...

What artists do you hope to collaborate with in the future?

CG Talks Fashion & Beauty With Singer Miasha

New York-based songstress Miasha may love music (be sure to check out her single “Everybody’s Beautiful” on iTunes), but she also has a passion for fashion! Growing up with a love for creatively expressing herself, it is no surprise Miasha loves creating outfits, going shopping and stashing tons of chic beauty products in her medicine cabinet! Miasha’s personal style is funky and edgy with a pop-rock twist. Noting style icons such as Vivienne Westwood and Madonna, Miasha is all about finding hip pieces that truly make a statement. Right now, Miasha loves her “white embroidered tux jacket with a modern twist by designer Alexander Wang,” and anything else she has purchased from her favorite stores: “Bess NYC, Zara, Patricia Fields, Trash & Vaudeville and Herold's in London.” Overall, Miasha’s cool style makes her the perfect fashion and beauty expert!

Want to learn more about her style? We’ll let her do the talking…

If you could create your own designer label what kind of clothes would you design and what would you call your label?
M: When you see the work of a master tailor or seamstress -- and I’m talking about all the way back to ancient royalty -- you see an artistry and craftsmanship that is beyond. So I would like to have the aesthetic of modernity to fit into peoples active lives as well as their fantasy lives. I would call this particular line ARCHETYPE.

Do you have a favorite designer?
M: I do have a couple of top favorites -- Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen (himself), Rodarte and Norma Kamali.

What influences your personal style?
M: My own style is influenced by art, rhythm and colors.

What is your favorite accessory?
M: Right now I’m loving my black leather double-shoulder holster.

What is your favorite outfit?
M: My favorite outfit right now... black tux pants from Zara, simple shirt (I usually cut the sleeves of a guy’s T-shirt), the leather holster shoulder piece and black motorcycle boots from Barbara Bui.

When did you first begin to develop your sense of style?
M: At a very young age. Because my grade school required us to wear a uniform, I became quite creative in making this uniform a fashion piece, hahaha.

What are some of your makeup and beauty product must-haves?
M: Two products I always have with me are Creme Camphrea from Guerlain and Make Up Forever cover up. I also love L’oreal Feria conditioner (no tangles) and Garnier Fructis shampoo and Jergens creme original scent.

What is your favorite way to style your hair?
M: A right-out-of-the-shower look. Still a bit of wet hair and parted to the side -- I like the side part to almost cover one eye, a modern Veronica Lake hairdo.

What is your favorite way to do your makeup?
M: Generally a very natural face makeup and a good lip stain color.

Are there any beauty regimes/ routines you like to follow?
M: The most important routine I follow -- and I notice it in the texture of my skin, body, nails and hair -- is intensive exercise, like really being able to sweat. And sleep and a ton of water.

What is your favorite color of nail polish?
M: Lincoln Park After Dark, OPI.

What is one saying you like to live by when it comes to fashion and beauty?
M: Everybody’s beautiful!

CG's Exclusive Interview With Call To Attraction

Ryan Wood, Dylan Wood, Josh Perrone and Joe Mahoney are the band members behind the up-and-coming indie/pop-rock band Call To Attraction. Based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the boys (all in their 20s) became a band when Ryan Wood (the lead singer) “wanted to play music live with [his] best friends. [He] started writing originals and got some official members together for shows.” Call To Attraction’s newest EP “What Comes Next” (released in February 2012) has skyrocketed, and the band has definitely tasted the celebrity lifestyle with an ever-evolving fan base and plans to make even more great music. “I have a bunch of songs sitting around waiting to be recorded. I'm always doing back and forth’s with my producers so we can make the songs better,” says Ryan Wood. It definitely seems like these boys have big dreams and a lot planned in their future!

The band's EP “What Comes Next” has an urban, alternative sound that is great for girls looking for an edgy new sound to jam out to! “The EP was recorded in Atlanta, Ga., with the best producers in the universe -- Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount. It’s a four-track EP we recorded in January earlier this year. The tracks came out greater than we expected, which is always good, and really showcased our epic pop/rock sound.” The EP has a great sound, and the band members hope each song has the kind of vibe that when “[their] the song[s] comes on the radio, people turn their attention towards the speakers, and for that three minutes, they are glued.” Mission accomplished! All songs on the new EP are very enjoyable and a must-have for your music library.

Call To Attraction may be moving quickly in their career now, and they have no interest in slowing down ... not even for a second! The band has big dreams to collaborate with Simple Plan or The All American Rejects. “I’ve always felt both of our bands would put on a great show together,” says Ryan Wood. As for the boys’ long term goals? They are hoping that their band explodes into something everyone knows and loves. For now, they are all about accomplishing what they see as important right now: “[getting] signed to a reputable record label and touring the world.” Best of luck, boys -- your music has definitely called us to attraction!

Read on for our exclusive interview with Ryan Wood of Call to Attraction...

How would your friends describe you?
RW: Hopefully they see me as a nice dude. I’m very chill and relaxed in a “hanging out” environment.

What is one thing your fans don’t know about you?
RW: I used to race dirt bikes religiously.

Did you always know you wanted a career in music?
RW: Not always. Back in the day I wanted to do something with extreme sports. But as soon as high school kicked in, that’s when it all changed.

What is your first memory of music?
RW: My parents always had music playing around the house when my brother and I were young ... bands like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and The Who.

What is the best part of being a musician?
RW: Being able to sit down at a random piano, guitar or drum set and just being able to play music.

What is your advice for aspiring artists?
RW: Always write. If you get a big break, recording people will ask you “what else do you have,” and you better have a good answer for them.

How do you want to inspire people with your music?
RW: I want people to think how they want and not worry about what others think. Be independent. Be your own voice in your own song.

What is your favorite song right now?
RW: I’ve been jamming to Mayday Parade’s cover of “Somebody That I Used To Know.”
