Your Signature Beauty Look: The Audrey

Having one of the most famous eyes and brows in history is no coincidence; Audrey Hepburn’s status as a timeless beauty has made her signature look one of the most sought-after in every decade.

Much like her essence, Audrey’s beauty look is effortless. It doesn’t shock us that “she loved to shop for groceries (but not clothes), didn’t wear makeup at home, never went to the gym and enjoyed two fingers of Scotch every night,” says People.

Although “she thought her nose too big, her feet too large and her neck too long,” says People, modern women everywhere love to replicate her fresh face, perfectly-lined doe eyes and full brows. We love borrowing from Audrey’s look in "Breakfast at Tiffany’s," which is more modern than her previous films like "Sabrina" and "Funny Face," where her iconic brows were practically drawn in.

Think of Audrey’s iconic face as a classic look with a little more flare than the au naturale approach. If you’re the type of girl who loves to appear effortlessly made up, then you’re definitely an Audrey! Learn to perfect Audrey’s signature babydoll look here.

1. Prep the Face
Since Audrey is known for her flawless complexion, prime your face. We love using Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($36, Sephora). If you have a dry or normal skin, you can skip this step.

2. Apply a Base
In film, Audrey’s face appeared fresh and youthful at all times. If achieving a natural glow is a goal for you, it’s important that you apply a base or at least a tinted moisturizer. We like Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 ($39, Sephora). And, for you ladies who never shy away from foundation, we love Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere Foundation ($45, Nordstrom). Both picks will leave a natural radiant finish.

3. Conceal and Brighten
If you know you are in fact an Audrey, the appearance of perfect skin is vital. Conceal all your imperfections with a non cakey-concealer like Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage ($30, Sephora). If you have a clear complexion, skip this step, but do follow up with a luminizing pen under your eyes, like Neutrogena Skin Brightening Eye Perfector SPF 25 ($11.99, Ulta) to brighten up the under eye area.

4. Set Your Foundation and Concealer
We love using Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder ($22, Sephora) on top of our cheeks and under eye area. To powder your face we prefer using a translucent, loose powder to prevent any cakey patches.

5. Eyeshadow is Optional
Eyeshadow is an optional step, but if you would like to doll up a tad bit more, reach for a soft, matte gray; no shimmers or metallics allowed! If you’d like to give your eye that natural depth Audrey had, use a taupe color on your crease to add the illusion of depth.

6. Perfect the Wide-Eyed Look
To perfect Audrey’s vixen, doll eyes, we love using Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Gel Eyeliner ($9.99, Ulta). If you feel more comfortable using a kohl liner, that’s fine too. Audrey’s look is all about being effortless. The secret here is to start with a thin line on the inner corner of your eye, and gradually thicken the line from the inner corner, while maintaining the same width until you reach the outer corner. Once you reach the end, flick your wrist slightly upwards to add that extra flare. Don’t forget to smudge a brown pencil liner on your bottom lashes, try not to concentrate too much of the color on the outer corner of your eyes; they key here is to emphasize your almond shape, as opposed to creating a smoldering eye.

A makeup tip we are excited to share with you ladies is to use a nude colored or soft pink or lilac liner on the lower rim of your eyes; this will instantly give your eye an open, wide eye look, making you look more awake and alert and, of course, pretty. We love Benefit Eye Bright ($20, Sephora). If you don’t know what we are talking about take a look at this awesome tutorial from The Beauty Department.

7. Achieve Flirty Lashes
It’s hard to ignore Audrey’s captivating eyes. To add that flirty appeal, we recommend Lancome Définicils High Definition Mascara ($27, Sephora). This baby will give your eyelashes that extra lift and length to create the ultimate flirty look. Whatever you do, don’t forget to curl your lashes! For you ladies who are willing to fully commit, try adding false lashes to this daytime look. Nothing screams Audrey Hepburn more than luscious lashes.

8. Thicken Those Brows
An Audrey look would not be complete without her naturally thick, dark brows, which by the way, we are so envious about! If you want the full Audrey effect, we suggest that you begin with a very straight eyebrow progressing into a slight arch. If you prefer your natural brow shape, just remember to keep them natural and full. For the perfect brows we recommend filling them in with a powder, like Anastasia Brow Powder Duo ($23, Sephora), and set your brows with a clear gel, like Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara ($5.49, Ulta).

9. Become a Blushing Beauty
One of our favorite things about Audrey’s signature face are her flushed cheeks. The beauty about pink is its universally attractive quality on all skin tones; it’s girly, feminine, and elegant. To maintain that freshness in your face, it is imperative that you don’t skip this step. Our favorite pink blush is Illamasqua’s Powder Blusher in Tremble ($26, Sephora). Apply your favorite pink blush on the high peak of your cheeks to emphasize your cheek bones.

10. Say Yes to Matte Lips
Lastly, pick your perfect coral shade. Audrey always sported a matte lip, which added to the sophistication of her look. We love NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Sex Machine ($25, Sephora).

“Elegance is the only beauty that never fades,” says Audrey. Keep it neutral and sophisticated. This is the key to any Audrey look, with the exception of the color pink. As much as we admire Audrey’s inside and out beauty, we recognize that not all ladies are Audrey’s. Never fear because we have a guide for you bombshells and super naturals girl in the upcoming weeks! Which signature style will you most identify with? Ultimately, we leave you with these wise words from Audrey Hepburn herself, “happiest girls are the prettiest!”
