7 Steps to a Chic Closet

With spring in the air, it’s time to get organized for the warmer weather. Get ready because it’s time to do a little spring-cleaning: style edition.

1) Evaluate
Open up those closet doors and take a good look. Before you even begin to dive into that mess, grab some of the essentials. Hangers are a great way to keep your clothes looking fresh and clutter-free. Ultra-thin velvet hangers keep clothes from falling off, and the best part is they come in all different colors!

2) Take It All Out
Make some space and remove every last item in your closet. Removing all of the clutter is the first step. Make sure you are giving yourself plenty of time for cleaning. It’s time to start off with a fresh canvas!

3) Organize
Make three piles -- “love it,” “like it,” and finally, “hate it.” Being able to clearly see each item in your closet is important. When it comes down to it, you need to make a decision. The Abercrombie and Fitch sweatshirt that has just been sitting at the bottom of your closet needs to go. It’s time to get down to business!

4) Out with the Old
Take a close look at your “like it” and “hate it” piles. Get rid of the clothes that you’ve been holding onto that haven’t been worn in months, even years. Head over to the nearest consignment store and get your money’s worth!

5) Rearrange
No matter what size your closet is, you should have no problem trying to squeeze in your clothes. Make sure every dress, blouse or sweater is easily accessible. Try color-coding your clothes or even arranging them by sleeve length; whatever works for you!

6) Assess
After all of your hard work, you realize that there might have been a pair of jeans that you’ve outgrown, or you need more socks! Make a list of some of the items that you might need to replace. There is a reason you put your hip-hugging denim skirt in the “hate it” pile; you do not need to replace that!

7) In with the New
After all, we are in a new season, which means new trends! Spring 2013 is all about being bold. Thick stripes, classy cutouts, blacks and whites and even leather -- yes, we said it, leather for the spring! Gear up with the latest fads, but spend your money wisely!

With a messy and unorganized closet, it’s hard to find a good place to start. Don’t let your clothes pile up to the point where you don’t even know what you own to begin with. We don’t know what you’re waiting for -- start your spring-cleaning already!
