The College Girl's Guide to Makeup for Class

The middle of the semester is here and tests, quizzes and papers are becoming a normal part of the weekly routine, not to mention football games, work, and that little thing called sleep. Whew! With all this stuff going on, it can be really easy to let things like a makeup routine go by the wayside. Today I'm going to show you a really quick routine that will make you look wide awake and pulled together for that 9 a.m. math class. Did I mention it will take less than five minutes?

Tinted Moisturizer:

Tinted moisturizer is a college girl's best friend. It’s perfect because you can smooth it onto your face during the morning rush to class. Try to find one with SPF so that you get sun protection as well as a light coverage. I find that a tinted moisturizer is perfect for taking the redness out of my cheeks without looking completely made up for class. This one from Clinique gives skin a healthy glow, and the Aveeno tinted moisturizer is available at most drugstores as well!

Peachy, pink blush:

Blush is one of those products that really makes a huge difference in a little amount of time. All you have to do is sweep the shade on the apples of your cheeks and you instantly look radiant. Pink shades are the most universally flattering, but peach shades look give you a natural glow as well. Try blushes from brands like MAC, Benefit, Maybelline and NYX. Each brand offers a wide variety of formulas and colors. Our favorite? Beach blush from Cargo.

Eye shadow:

You don't have to get crazy and put six different shades on your eyes for class, but you can sweep a light shimmery brown shade across your lids for added dimension. You'll never have to hear the words, "you look tired" when you use this trick. If you're really in a rush, you don't even need to use a brush to apply this, just dab on the shimmery shade with your ring finger. MAC make some really great shimmery shades, but Physician's Formula and Covergirl offer some nude shades as well. A great affordable option is the Coastal Scents Original Palette.

Lengthening mascara:

If you only have time for one thing in the morning, mascara should be at the top of your list. It also helps to curl your lashes because it really opens up tired eyes. Mascara adds a subtle definition that's enough to give you the confidence to wink at the cutie in calculus without the added step of eye liner. I love drugstore mascaras because mascara has one of the shortest shelf lives cosmetics-wise (3 months, ladies!) It makes more sense to search for a less expensive option if you're going to be buying mascara four times a year. Maybelline Volum'express mascara and Covergirl LashBlast mascara are top choices.

Tinted Lip Balm:

Okay ladies, a show of hands: how many of you have gotten your hair caught in your lip gloss on your way to class? Been there, done that! Then on top of that, you have to make the super-flattering motion of getting your hair out of the said lipgloss. Has anyone else noticed that lip gloss acts like super-glue on hair? Just me? A tinted lip balm is the perfect solution to this common problem. The tint gives you color like a gloss, without the stickiness factor. Burt's Bee's makes great tinted balms in several colors.

    1. Who knew this article would spark such a debate!?! Silly if you ask me. It's extremely petty and judgmental that people are actually saying it doesn't fly in the "real world" to go without makeup. Says who!? You should only be wearing makeup if it makes YOU feel better. I like wearing a little makeup, but don't have time every single day. Why is that a big deal? If it is important to you to wear makeup, then do it. Don't criticize others for not doing the same.

    3. I agree if I don't have time or don't feel like putting on makeup I'm not going to, and nobody has the right to tell me that's wrong. I don't feel the need to live up to anybody's standards but my own. Ifyou don't like that I'm bare-faced and comfortable with myself don't look at me and just mind your own business :P

    4. Are we really arguing over whether or not its okay to wear makeup? If you want to wear makeup do and if you don't then don't. This article is trying to give some quick tips for people who do want to wear makeup. If you don't plan on wearing makeup to class don't read the article and don't criticize the people who do want to.

    5. Agree! If you don't want to wear make up then don't criticize those that do. There's nothing wrong with looking presentable. When you have a job you will have to look presentable. Not spending 10 minutes on your face and make up is called laziness!!!!

    6. I enjoy reading the comments on these pages because of how self-important and judgmental some of these people are and feel that they have the right and reasons to demean others' use or disuse of makeup. Funny stuff.

  2. Honestly, who in the right mind is going to be wearing eye shadow every day to class. A bit unnecessary if you ask me.

    1. uh you seriously couldn't be bothered to take 30 seconds and pat some eyeshadow on your lids...................... taking laziness to a whole new level

    2. I do, every day.

      Delete
    3. I also do so every day. Seriously, it takes about ten seconds to dab on some eyeshadow, but it makes a huge difference. My education is my number one priority, but that doesn't mean I don't take ten minutes (hair and makeup) in the morning to look presentable. In the real world, that "Just Hopped out of Bed" look doesn't cut it.

      Delete
    4. I wouldn't say eyeshadow is the line between looking presentable or not looking presentable, though. I go for just blush and mascara every day and love it. Besides, badly done eyeshadow usually looks more "hopped out of bed" than a clean face.

    5. I agree, but using just a nude color or something light is easy to do and can make you look much more awake. It brightens your face and looks much better than relying on eyeliner to look and feel good as many girls at my college seem to do...

      Delete
    6. I never wear eyeshadow nor do I wear eyeliner. I don't wear them because I look better without, not because I'm "lazy."

    7. Everyone is probably going to say this is super shallow, but honestly looks are the first thing people notice about others. Every girl says, I want a guy who loves me for my personality, not looks! Ok, but no guy sees a random girl on campus and says, "she is going to have a wonderful personality, I can just tell!! I should ask her out!" Uh no. And no, you shouldn't wear makeup just to impress guys but you never know who you're going to be meeting that day. First impressions are a big deal and I like to make myself feel confident in how I look before I leave the house because I never know who I may meet in class, or possible interview opportunities, etc. It's not shallow to care about stuff like that. And if you don't believe in makeup and like to go for that whole sweats-to-class thing, that's totally fine if it works for you. Everyone has their own opinions, just accept it.

      Delete
    8. It's not shallow to care about how you look. However the number of women that responded to say makeup makes them feel beautiful, or they don't like a hopped out of bed look etc... is saddening. It's not one extreme or the other someone can wear makeup everyday and not look or even feel beautiful, and a person can not wear makeup a single day of the week and look very beautiful. Also it's interesting how people related wearing no makeup with wearing sweats, clothing was never even mentioned in this article and has no relation to these makeup tips. As women we should not put each other down, with or without makeup we are all beautiful.

  3. I wear eyeshadow everyday to class. It takes all of an extra 5 minutes to put on a simple day look. It wouldn't kill most girls to look a little more put together rather than showing up like you just hopped out of bed. In the real world at a real job, thats unacceptable.

    2. Yah well in college your not in the "real world" ok. And your making the assumption that every girl is ugly without makeup and needs to wear it to look presentable. Which is far from the truth so just stop with your untrue comments. Ok.

    3. when you're working at a hospital and have to get up everyday at 4 in the morning wearing makeup isn't priority. Most nurses and doctors who work hectic hours are NOT going to be wearing much makeup at all. And the few girls who DO wear makeup are hated on for looking pretty . Its kinda strange how it works sometimes .

      Delete
    4. I disagree I'm totally in the real world. I'm a 23yr old sophomore with a husband! Not every college female is a fresh faced high school girl, but a woman with a family, a job and school to balance. I look put together everyday because you never know what contacts you're going to make today that will make a difference tomorrow and looking put together helps people feel like you are a more put together person in general. and frankly I prefer using eyeshadow every day though I often skip eyeliner. I have small eyes IMO it makes my eyes look more vibrant

    5. The more time you focus in yourself the more time people will spend focusing on you. so many women say things such as "Makeup is the last on my list!" but you might as well be saying "I'm last on my list." If you want to be respected in this world then respect yourself. And if makeup isn't your thing then take the time to care for yourself in other ways. Pampering yourself is not selfish. It's important.

      Delete
    6. thank you it shows you take pride in how you look instead of just rolling out of bead it doesnt have to be over the top but some is nice for class and everyone could use help

      Delete
    7. Also as a person who works in the hospital, yes it's important to wear makeup to some so that you don't look like you're working at 4 in the morning but rather 4 in the afternoon, so that your patients feel comfortable and that you don't look exhausted.

Not all faces need makeup, and not all people who wear makeup need makeup. People just do it to make themselves ready for the day however they please.

      Delete
    8. Wow! It's truly crazy how so many women are taking this. It's not the end of the world! I really believe that this lady is trying to help for the women who want to wear makeup everyday things. I don't believe she intended to insult anyone. I am a woman who wears makeup most of the time and there are days that I don't. I don't think anyess of women who don't wear it all the time or for those who do wear it all the time. We are all beautiful inside and out. Everyone needs to calm down!

      Delete
    9. I rarely wear makeup. If you don't like the way I look, then that's your problem, not mine. I don't need to impress people with my looks. As for looking professional and 'put together', why can't I just be beautiful the way I was born? Yeah, I might have 5 minutes to put makeup on, but I'd rather spend that time with my fiance who thinks I am amazing on my own. Maybe you girls need to find some other way to make yourselves feel good about yourselves. Because when you feel good about yourself, it shows as you look better, you smile more, your skin may glow. That's prettier than any makeup you'll ever wear.

    11. I'm sitting here laughing after only reading a few comments. Makeup isn't a girl's beauty or priority. Saying puting makeup last means putting yourself last might be the most shallow thing I've ever heard. If you care for your skin, you won't need makeup. "Presentable" Isn't based on whether or not you wearing makeup. Presentable means Having a smile on your face, being well rested (from not waking up thirty mins early to cake gloop on your face) and a good attitude. Obviously if you think the "real world" will snap judge you for not wearing makeup, then it's clear you are not IN the real world. A smile, and a good attitude towards others is what will get you respect in life- not wearing a ton of makeup like your too insecure to show your face. Every woman is beautiful and just because you don't show up to class wearing makeup doesn't mean you slept late. If your friends think that, you're going to need different friends down the road. I can't even believe how far this has gone. I can't explain how discusted I am that people here can't bear to be seen without makeup. Even if you ARE tired, why on earth is that something to be ashamed of? Nobody is going to judge you for staying up a little late. Attitude is everything- makeup is fake.

    12. This conversation is the stupidest, most unimportant conversation I have ever spent 10 minutes reading. I wear makeup almost every day to work, at home, and to school. It makes me feel pretty. but some days I don't have time to do it. You know what? I think the only one who notices is me. If it makes you feel confident, or like a better person then bully for you. If not, then put on your work clothes, put your hair in a pony tail and skip the makeup today. Good for you. As far as eyeshadow goes...I don't even know what to say to that. You all sound like a bunch of shallow high school prom queens who would be shocked hear that I sometimes don't take my makeup off before bed. And those girls who wear sweatpants to their 7am class are probably the ones who were up until 1am doing homework, after going to class and working all day. Give them a break. Oh, and one more thing...Stop being a huge bunch of bitches.

      Delete
    13. How on earth did those criticizing make up get over here :P :DH

    14. I hear some on here say they don't have time to put on makeup. That's not true. If it takes you 20 minutes to do your hair and makeup in the morning and doing that makes you late then wake up 20 minutes earlier. What's wrong with that?

      Delete
  4. Even if you just pat a little eyeshadow onto your eye before mascara it makes you look more put together- not like you slept in too late and didn't have time or you just forgot. Kind of like girls who wear sweatpants Every Single Day to class...

    1. Maybe you should try working MWF 7am - 9pm and going to school TuTh 8am - 9:45pm with 4 hr labs on each day. Also consider the fact that not everyone lives on campus and might have a morning commute in rush hour traffic. Some people that have class for over 12 hours a day and 2 hrs of driving might like to be comfortable.

You don't know everyones situation so why pass judgement on them because of how they dress. Petty.

      Delete
    2. I am someone who works just as much as you do and takes 18 hours of class, but I still make time to look like I care about what I look like. People do judge you based upon your looks and I want every opportunity I can get to make an impact. It takes me five minutes to do my makeup and If you're sitting in traffic for two hours, there have to be at least five minutes where you are sitting completely motionless.
It may be petty, but women will always be judged on their looks whether it's from other women in class or from potential interviewers.

      Delete
    3. I wake up everyday at 5am because I work two jobs, take 18 credit hours, and have a one year old son who I care for alone. It takes five minutes to out on makeup and look nice, it is about how you present yourself. No one is going to hire the girl who doesn't put effort into herself because then she won't put effort in the company. I'm not saying it is right, but that is how it works. It only takes five minutes to get ready and look nice, you deserve to put your best face forward everyday.

    4. Makeup is the feminine equivalent of neatly trimmed facial hair--it's a signal to everybody that you care enough about their opinion to put a few extra minutes into your morning. It's all well and good not to give a fudge about what people think, but advertising it in the way you dress for your job (and for many, school is a job) doesn't get exactly make you competitive in most professions.
On the other hand, if you're a tradeswoman who's gonna be getting into situations where makeup is impractical, then by all means go without it.

    5. I'm taking 26 credits this term while working one full time job and teaching about 20 hours worth of fitness classes on the side. I'm a chemical/nuclear engineering major with two language minors, so I, too spend a great deal of time in labs. I wear makeup every day. Why? Because I meet people every day, people who may have a great deal of power over my future. I would rather meet these people looking put together, rather than wearing dirty sweatpants/pajama pants and a hoodie. I'm just as comfortable in my usual heels, skinny jeans/leggings and nice top as I am in sweats, but I look far more presentable.

My P-chem professor attended the medical school that I want to go to, and worked there for nearly 10 years afterwards. She is now my mentor, and as long as the rest of my classes go well I have an excellent chance of getting an interview. She has never done this for anyone before. Would she have put herself on the line for a slob? Probably not.

Never underestimate the power of appearance.

      Delete
    6. I'm already quite tall for a girl (5'9"), so I don't enjoy wearing heels because they just seem rather pointless. Plus they are rather uncomfortable to be walking around in all day. I also don't wear makeup because I have red hair and extremely fair skin so putting dark stuff all around my eyes makes me look rather ridiculous. That doesn't make me a slob, it just means there what looks good on some people doesn't have the same effect on others, and not wearing makeup and heels doesn't make someone a slob.

      Delete
    7. To the person who said: "Makeup is the feminine equivalent of neatly trimmed facial hair--it's a signal to everybody that you care enough about their opinion to put a few extra minutes into your morning." <------ And that statement is proof that you're superficial. Who gives a crap? If you're too insecure to walk outside without makeup, I feel sorry for you! Some people look naturally okay without make-up, and you must not be one of them. Just because you choose to wear sweatpants doesn't mean you're lazy, dirty, or unkept. It means sometimes you just want to be COMFORTABLE. It's simple as that. Get over it.

      Delete
    8. Uhhh OK just cause one person says she wears heels doesn't mean you all have to get all defensive and explain your situation- she didn't mean all of you have to too! Seriously you guys are arguing over the most petty thing ever. It kind of looks pathetic when you get all defensive and see who works the longest or who goes to school the longest hours of the day. No one is saying people who don't wear makeup/wear sweats to pants are bad people- the root of what everyone is saying is just try to look presentable and look your best, you never know who you'll be meeting that day! Makeup isn't superficial and for those who don't wear it, fine. But for those who do, ok good for you and trying to look your best and take care of yourself.

      Delete
    9. Who gives a shit. Seriously? Find something better to do with your lives. Apparently eighteen hours in school with a job and a child isn't enough.

    10. Everyone saying 'i work this long and do this and this and this my life is hard blah blah blah' but you sure as hell have time to bitch at strangers on the internet?

      Delete
    11. Exactly and to one woman who was complaining that she is too busy to put on makeup in the morning all she has to do is wakeup a little earlier. I understand how some feel that people shouldn't judge you if you wear makeup or not but the fact is they do. I really don't think if someone was applying for an office job and they didn't take time to do their hair and wore sweats and no makeup to am interview would get the job. People do judge you on your appearance. If you are dressed and groomed properly people treat you differently. They see you take an effort to look presentable and not appear lazy. I know it all sounds petty but it's a competition out there to get the job. And even if you aren't looking for work right now and are just going to college, still put effort into your appearance so when the time comes it will be just routine. Remember you only get out what you put in.

      Delete
  5. I agree. A neutral eye shadow takes 30 seconds and helps polish you off. A little eye shadow never hurt anyone, and you might actually look like you care about how you present yourself to the world.

  6. I wear sweatpants, I don't wear makeup, and I look just fine! Putting makeup honestly makes me feel fake. Yes obviously when it comes to the real world and work I'll definately put in more time to look better but when I'm just going to class I'll put an take a shower, put stuff in my hair, and put some kind of clean outfit on. That's all that matters to me and if a guy doesn't like me for me then he can so be it. I'm not going to change who I am and how I look just to get a guy or whatever...

    3. I think it's important to just look presentable. You make a bigger impact on your classmates, professors, and whoever else you might meet that way. I'm currently working an internship at the college where I did my undergrad, and I'm incredible grateful that I took the ten minutes to throw on actual clothes and some simple makeup. I think it would be weird to work with people who had possibly seen me just out of bed, in my pajamas, with a cruddy face. College is the time to start learning how to be professional. It's also a good trial run for a look you might want to adopt for the workplace later on. We owe it to ourselves to take every opportunity to be and appear successful.

    5. It's not about trying to impress guys. I take a little time out of my morning to put make up on so I look presentable. I think it's ridiculous when people wear sweats and a sloppy big T-shirt to class. It takes just as long to throw on a pair of skinny jeans, a V-Neck, and a pair of flats as it does to throw on sweat pants, a big T-shirt, and flip flops. Taking a little extra time makes you look more professional. I got an internship because of one of my professors. If I had worn sweats and no makeup I guarantee you I would't have gotten this internship.

    2. I disagree. As someone here said college should be a practice run for getting ready for the real world. So you should look presentable and dress as if you were going on an interview.

  18. I am a high school student and I begin school at 7:30..I get up at 6 to get ready. Most high school girls do their make up to try and look presentable. If high school girls do it why wouldn't most college girls? Presentation is key. I am not saying put on layers of foundation because I personally only wear eyeliner and mascara. I mean if you aren't leaving the house..it is a no brained, NO MAKE UP! Unless you have company coming over. It is not about being fake, it is about look like you give a shit and aren't a total slob. I wear sweat pants to BED. Not to school, not on dates, or anywhere else. They are nice but no one wants to see what you rolled out of bed in. And if you don't like make or looking some what presentable maybe you should have checked out a "Back to Bed" post/blog!

    1. You my friend, I can agree with. I put on a minimal amount of makeup everyday and dress nice for school. The only time I don't wear makeup to school is when I wake up late and Ben then I dot wear sweat pants, i still try to look presentable

      Delete
    2. AGREED! My father always made me look presentable before I left the house. Never sweats or pajamas to school. Not layers of makeup either, but a fresh and put together look. You never know who you are going to see or where your day will take you.

      Delete
    3. Haha! Good one! There's nothing wrong with looking presentable. I think you should dress as if you were going on an interview. Getting into a routine while you are at college gives you practice for the real world.

  19. And quit correcting or making digs on other people's grammar. That just shows that you have nothing better to say. And if not you are big a smart ass. Nobody likes smart asses so maybe you are socially awkward. I am not trying to be mean or hurt your feelings but I don't believe this the blog for you. Other people like it though so please just back off everyone's case. We are just trying to see new and better ways to do make up and to give others advice. And it is not about impressing guys. Guys will chose girls that tend to wash their faces in the morning but you do it your way, I am sure both work.

  24. I always get up at least 30 minutes before class (unless I accidentally sleep through my alarm)and put on my make up. I dont do it to get a guy because I have one. And honestly, I only do it for myself. My mom always says, "Every barn could use a little paint!" Yes it's country but it is true.

In summary: if you feel confident and have that natural beauty without make up, don't bother putting it on. It's all up to you! Your personal preference is what comes first. Make up or no, as long as you look presentable and confident, that's what really matters.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So, I decided to jump in here. I am a stay-at-home Mom and former student. Back in the day I didn't wear much if any make-up and never really gave it much thought. Now, I wish I had taken better care of the skin I'm with a simple spf moiturizer and why not tinted if it gives you a little umpf? I clicked on this because it can't hurt to have a quick 5 minute face lift when you have 3 kids under 5 and need to jet out the door. I just wanted to put in my 2 cents that if it makes you feel better, do it, if not, don't but you should start now with taking care of your skin 'cause time flies ladies. Enjoy yourselves:)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think this is a great post. The makeup routine is easy and quick (in my opinion) which was key for myself while in college. I can do my makeup in less than 15 minutes, and this routine looks even faster I think! But some girls just don't like to wear makeup, and there isn't anything wrong with it, everyone is different!:)

  27. If you want to wear makeup--if you want to take 5 minutes to do these tips or 50 minutes to do a job worthy of a cinema screen--it's whatever, but the idea that so many women here seem to believe that a woman cannot look "presentable" or "hygienic" without it is heartbreaking.

    ReplyDelete

    1. agreed, just because you don't wear make up doesn't mean you are not hygienic. if you like make up wear it if not don't. And the whole sweat pants to class, especially early classes. is acceptable.just make sure your clothes are clean when you go to class.

    2. Welcome to the real world. It doesn't matter what we think. It matters to who's paying your salary. If wearing makeup is going to get you the job then do it. I wear makeup because to me it's fun and creative, it makes me feel better about myself and I feel like I am "dressed." I wouldn't feel put together without makeup on.

  35. I love putting on makeup and getting all dolled up every once in a while. I think it's fun to try out the different ways to do my eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. But I do not wear makeup everyday. I feel confident without it. If I'm just going to the market, bank, whatever errands that I have to run why should I get all done up? & I was the type of person to do my makeup every day for work but I do a lot of running around, standing next to fryers, grills, etc so I dont do my makeup because I sweat so much I feel it's unnecessary.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that everyone's lives are different. Not everyone has to go to work with a full face of makeup. I do my job just fine without it & my boss treats me the same way as she did before.
I personally think that if you are a woman that believes you have to wear makeup everyday before you leave the house, you either have self-esteem issues or maybe you're just feeding into what mass media wants you to think. "Wake up. Make your husband lunch. Put on makeup. Look pretty. Clean house. Cook dinner. Do it all over again." It's actually pretty sad.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Good tips! As a student I do find it difficult sometimes to make time in the morning to get myself as dolled up as I would prefer. Luckily though I was blessed with a face that doesn't even need this much makeup. I will say though that I am definitely guilty of going to class as comfy as possible. Especially if I am doing nothing but sitting and learning for 10 straight hours in multiple classrooms or a library, I am a huge advocate for sweatpants! But I'm much more confident in my own skin (and clothes!) than a lot of girls I have come across so I don't feel as if I need to constantly impress those around me. When it comes time for me to take on one of my responsibilities though, such as work, tutoring, volunteering, interning, interviewing, or one of my research projects; of course I always look presentable. :)

  37. Take some pride in yourself ladies. You will never know who you meet, in class, in the grocery store or anywhere for that matter. It takes 5 minutes to show potential acquatences you care enough about yourself to take 5 min to look put together. First impression unfortunately are everything, you will be judged my your-self presentation like you would anything. Take the time, everybodies busy get over it.

  38. Honestly. I LOVE makeup as much as the next girly girl. BUT I have seen some women that look absolutely stunning with no makeup, just a fresh clean face. It really doesnt have anything to do with what you, or society thinks. Its how you feel about yourself. Since when did everyone start caring when other women wear makeup or not. Stop being such bullies.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Holy crap, you people are scary! You seriously are that judgmental of a woman not wearing make-up? I live in the "real world" and I couldn't care less if a woman has make-up on or not. You can have a clean, fresh, face and still look "presentable" as long as you're wearing decent clothes, and maybe a smile and some confidence. It's a personal choice. I would never deny someone a job just because they didn't wear make-up to the interview, that's absurd. If you wore sweat pants to an interview, then yeah... you're obviously a lazy slob. Make-up matters not. If you want/like to wear it, great. If not, great! =)

  40. Women should always look their best even when they're going to a class. I prefer to wear makeup and this is very helpful!!

  42. This seems to have become a bit of a debate.
Frankly, whether your look requires eyeliner or eyeshadow or not, looking presentable is an important part of life. Especially when I see girls showing up to classes in sweatpants or pajama pants!

There's no need to go all-out or anything, but combing your hair and looking pleasant and awake (!) gives your peers and professors the idea that you're a pulled together student.

    ReplyDelete
  43. There's a difference between showing up to class in pajama's, and showing up to class with little or no makeup. A lot of you keep saying girls should spend the extra 5 minutes to make themselves look "presentable", well, if you think your not presentable unless you have makeup on, then there are some issues with you're self esteem. ...You do know makeup didn't always exist? The idea of the general population wearing makeup everyday isn't something that's been around forever!

Am I the only one who finds it sad that girls are being looked down upon for choosing to go natural? Natural beauty anyone? I have streaks where I wear make up for days, then change it up and don't for a while. I think people should be fine with me whichever way I go out, and if they aren't, sucks to be them cause they have to live with it!

To the girl who said that not taking 30 seconds to put eye shadow on everyday "takes laziness to a whole new level", that's ridiculous. You should feel pretty for you! Not for others, so if those "lazy" girls would rather spend that 30 seconds on something else, that's their perogative and I'm sure those girls look damn fine.

Whether you go natural, light makeup, more intricate makeup, or even if you look slightly like you were gang banged by crayola, that's your choice. If some people call it laziness, or over done, they aren't friends, and if they're not friends, you don't need to listen to them!

    2. I've been pretty bothered by the perception of "presentable" being represented here. I love to play with makeup, but I don't do it every day. Most days, I just use máscara, but often I go without. I'm beautiful every day, not just the days I wear makeup. And I look presentable those days as well. My clothes are clean and wrinkle free. My hair is curly so it has a mind of its own, but it is contained. I take good care of my skin and hair, and I try to keep my lips moisturized. I carry myself with confidence. I look presentable, with or without makeup, I promise. I also have a wonderful boyfriend who noticed me for reasons other than the way I look, during a time I didn't wear makeup at all. That being said, I think this article has talked me into getting some tinted moisturizer. Because I like the effect and the creative process, not because I think I makes me look more presentable.

  44. I don't wear make-up. Never have. My mother, who works in a law office (in the real world), also doesn't wear make-up. It's not being lazy. I just don't see the necessity in putting it on. I feel fine without make-up and feel confident. I don't wear PJ's to class or sweat pants. I do actually get dressed every day and comb my hair and take a shower every day. I also get enough sleep every night, so that when I do get up and go to class, I'm not tired and I do look awake and presentable.

Some of us don't feel the need to wear make-up every day. That being said, I clicked on this article to see if there were any subtle ways to wear makeup. I think it'd look odd, if I, someone who never ever wears makeup just randomly came to class completely done up. I'm not anti makeup. I just don't see it as a necessity. And, in my opinion, it's not a necessity. I have a job. I've had several long-term boyfriends. I have friends. I make good grades. How does makeup improve the quality of my life beyond that?

Well, newsflash-we ALL ARE SUPER BUSY. most of us are married or in college and get about an hour of sleep each night. if you dont wear make-up, thats fine, but stop hating on the world because of WHAT YOU THINK AN ARTICLE SAID. 53. This is madness!! You guys have turned helpful tips into a pointless agreement about preferences! Make doesn't make you presentable! Your damenor does. Coming to class with makeup caked up on your face isn't gonna get you a better grade so who cares! If you wear makeup eveyday good for you and if you don't good for you to! Lets try not to turn everything into a debate! Gosh it's like people look for any reason to themselves above the rest! CHILL it's just makeup which isn't gonna help if your ugly on the inside lol

    ReplyDelete
  54. Haha this is hilarious! Personally, I think makeup helps accentuate natural beauty. If you are applying it correctly and using the right products, you will never end up looking "fake."

    ReplyDelete
  55. People wear makeup to feel good, confident, and beautiful about themselves. You don't look fake when you wear makeup unless you are wearing too much, applied it wrong, or if you are using a type of makeup brand that doesn't fit your skin tone well. I'm not tell anyone if it's bad or good to wear makeup to a college class, but a little dash of eyeshadow that would take about 20 seconds (it depends on how much you apply) wouldn't hurt. But if your one of those types of people that likes to wear sweatpants, a messy high bun, and chill with no makeup on that's completely fine with me. Honestly, some days I wear makeup to class and some days I don't because I stayed up too late the night before studying, if I didn't have time in the morning, or if I just didn't feel like putting any on period. This whole argument is ridiculous. Everyone has their own opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  56. OK HERE'S THE COLD HARD FACTS: no guy is going to be interested in a girl who looks like crap! Honestly, how much more comfortable are sweats than throwing on a pair of jeans for two hours? How much time does it really take to comb through your hair or throw on some quick, light makeup? SO many girls show up to my classes with baggy sweats/hoodies, face like death, and rat's nest on top of their head every day. Ok, every now and then that's fine- some days are hectic. But for everyday you obviously have some problems with self-appearance. No one is going to look at you like that and like it. Guys think it's gross, interviewers think it's lazy, and other classmates just know you as the one who doesn't care about hereself to take a little time in the morning. Everyone is going to hate me for saying that, but you all know it's the truth! People don't look at girls like that and think, she has a lot of confidence! She doesn't need makeup! NO they think ew, she really doesn't care. Sorry to put it bluntly buuttt....

    ReplyDelete
  57. hahaha I'm a guy- my sister was looking at this page and told me to come look at how idiot some girls are arguing about this crap.
Is this really what girls argue about? makeup?
No guy thinks a girl is superficial for putting on a little makeup in the morning- we appreciate that they care about how they look. Now that doesn't means cake it on and look like you dunked your face in a bucket of makeup. I play for the football team at my school and there are a lot of superficial girls who we've met through this, who only care about makeup. Guys don't like that. I like girls who can go some days without makeup and feel fine- it tells me she has confidence, but to be honest, I probably don't look at girls without makeup much on first impressions. That isn't shallow, because I don't know personalities just by seeing someone on campus/in class, so you find someone you're attracted to, who looks put together, and then ask her out...
you guys should probably just stop arguing cause you sound like a bunch of whiny girls hahaha

  60. mascara should never be worn without eyeliner PERIOD. It doesn't have to be dark or black but a simple taupe or brown is still better than having nothing and having your eyelashes look like they don't belong on your face.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Tinted moisturizer is okay as long as it isn't oil based or even better is to just get one that's oil free. Girls with more oily/combination skin would benefit more from a pressed powder.

  62. I found this extremely helpful. I have worn makeup everyday since I was around 15 and I am now 20. For those people that don't understand why people wear makeup everyday and are telling their whole life stories about why: don't wear makeup! Just because you don't doesn't mean everyone feels that way.

  63. Wooowwww. This is all ridiculous. If you keep yourself clean, makeup really isnt important in looking presentable. I only wear it because my skin breaks out, but if my skin was clear, I would go bare faced all the time. Being naturally pretty feels just as good as being done up.

I will admit though that there are appropriate times for everything, you wouldn't wear sweat pants to a job interview and you wouldn't wear skinny jeans, a blouse and heels to the gym et cetera. But if being yourself means you take that extra 5 minutes, great. If it means you prefer to go natural, great. The bottom line is JUST BE YOURSELF. Oh and for the subject of guys: some guys like girls wearing make up and some don't but most don't care either way. Its a preference, just as some people like pepperoni and some cheese.

  73. I have 2 kids and i'm so glad I found this. I go without makeup a lot just because I'm too tired for it (and the constant yawning really smears anything i do). And to all those shallow girls, wait until you have kids, that 10 extra minutes to do hair and makeup WILL seem like a lot to do. So don't be so judgemental.

  75. If you don't wear makeup, why bother commenting? It's just makeup. Personally, I look sickly without makeup- so I wear it. My friend looks gorgeous without makeup. But when it comes to sweatpants/yoga pants/PJs in class (every day or every other day), that's where I draw the line. Personally, I wear jeans instead because it's just as comfortable and I think wearing PJs (I consider sweat pants and yoga pants to be pajamas) to class is disrespectful towards the professors....because somehow pajamas and sweats got into this haha!

This article was about makeup. If you don't need it or wear it or even like it- why bother commenting on it or reading it? Stupid arguments.

  76. I guess I'm weird because i wake up 30 minutes earlier than i normally would to add full on eye shadow, mascara, and eyeliner. I just have time to do it and i'd rather look good to class..but that's just me.

  77. I always put on makeup in the morning. I makes ME feel more polished and put together. Whether you wish to wear makeup or not is one thing, but I think you should put a little effort into your morning.. don't go to class looking like you literally just rolled out of bed. Besides, these tips are very simple and don't go through the 9,000 steps you really could. It is saying a tinted moisturizer to even out and protect the skin, no primer, foundation, and two different types of concealer for spots and then under eyes.

It really does depend on which type of school you go to. Tends that the much smaller schools' girls tend to take a more laid back approach to dressing for class as where the girls at a little big larger school take more time in the morning.

I also agree that if you don't want to wear makeup or take the time in the morning that you don't have to read this blog. A lot of girls like to wear something so this is just a simple suggestion article to make things more simple. The article also gives all drugstore or high street alternatives to the high end market products.

    CALM IT DOWN.

  78. I mean, if you have an eyeshadow brush that you haven't cleaned in a while (like me - busy bee!!) you could just pick it up and (if it's a darker shade) swipe it in your crease for definition really quick. And if you don't want to wear makeup, don't! I have several friends that don't wear makeup and they are simply gorgeous. Debating over makeup is idiotic and shallow. Grow up.

  79. I don't understand this debate over makeup. Having makeup on isnt going to make a difference in a first impression. Brushed hair, nice posture, and a smile however will. If makeup makes you feel better about yourself then wear it. But Id never call a girl lazy just because she didnt wear makeup. This is idiotic.

  80. I like urban decay lid primer potion- sin. It's champagne colored. It cost $20.00, but it lasts a long time. My quick makeup routine is- sin lid primer, mascara, powder when need & burts bees balm or gloss. I also have no problem going without makeup.

  81. If I had seen this when I had early classes, i might have worn makeup more often to class. But probably not because I'm an Art major and end most every day covered from head to toe in charcoal. Everyone is arguing this much too seriously, but my best friend and I never wear makeup except on special occasions. I never wear sweats or pajamas to class and i felt perfectly put together and comfortable and confident. No professor I ever had cared a whit if I showed up bare faced. They grade me on my showing up, doing the work in a satisfactory manner and showing excitement for the class. I have Art everyday, and my primary medium is charcoal, so this just isn't logical for me. I do appreciate how it would be helpful for girls who choose not to look like coal miners every day though, and i may use the tips in the weekend!

  82. oh god, there are so many better quality articles on this site, such a shame that this is #1 and that people are making such a polemic about wearing makeup or not...such a bore.

  83. I go to class and practically every where without a stitch of make-up I don't think that qualifies me as a troll. Every one is different and has there own preferences. Accept that and do your own thing without going after others.

  85. Do you like wearing make-up? You do? Does wearing it make you feel great about yourself? Awesome! Keep wearing make up and doing what makes you feel good and happy.

Do you like wearing make up? You don't? Does not wearing it make you feel great about yourself? Awesome! Keep not wearing make up and doing what makes you feel good and happy!

^^ THAT'S IT. That's ALL it's about. It's doesn't matter what everyone at your college does, it mattes what YOU do. Make up matters if it matters to YOU. We live in a world which constantly makes girls feel ugly and fat and bad about themselves, they don't need a jury of their peers to judge them based off of how "correct" their make up application (or lack there of) may be.

I do agree that dressing well like you take yourself seriously is a better way to land a job, rather than putting on the first wrinkled dress you see on the floor that doesn't smell. However, "dressing well like you take yourself seriously" DOES NOT have to include make up. Or maybe it does. Who cares!?

If you feel beautiful, you look beautiful, and that's all that matters. I wish women would stop being so hateful of each other...

  86. Awesome article!! I'm not much of a makeup wearing person but I would like to dress my eye's up every once in awhile! I think makeup is fun! I'm just now getting into it at the age of 21 and I don't see it as making myself look like a different person or doing it cause I feel ugly I see it as kinda like cosplaying! LOL! Today I'll do a dark and smokey look today I'm gonna be seductive deidre or today I'm going as sporty so I'll do a more natural eye color! It's just fun! And for some its an art form. Anything that you're passionate about is your form of art. So everyone just relax and say thank you to the person who created this wonderful and very helpful post :) Thank you

  87. Great post, I love the suggestions! Neutral shadows are my staple for adding color to my face in a flash. BH Cosmetics makes an affordable neutral palette with a variety of color options!
