Beauty Woes: 6 Signs You're Wearing Too Much Makeup

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but in the process of primping, you can get a tad bit carried away. Sometimes it’s leaving without checking your makeup in natural light or missing lipstick on your teeth. By no means are we judging -- we have ALL been there -- but as your beauty-conscious BFF, we want to alert you to the beauty faux pas made most often.

Your Roomie Can’t Recognize You
If your roomie can’t recognize you with a bare face, you have a big problem! Makeup can give you confidence, but you shouldn’t feel insecure about letting your natural beauty shine. So forgo the falsies for something more natural; we bet you are even more beautiful when wearing a little less.

Cakey Face
Although the boy sitting next you in English class may not know you have foundation on, the girl on your other side will know for sure if foundation is layered rather than lightly buffed. Don’t let the boy, who knows nothing about makeup, know you are drenched in it! If you feel like foundation isn’t providing enough coverage, buy a creamy concealer rather than adding more foundation.

Spider Lashes
Full, luscious lashes are coveted by makeup mavens everywhere, some of us even use two-to-three mascaras on a daily basis! Make sure your miracle mix doesn’t cross over from voluminous to spidery. Lashes should not look crunchy! Try using a curler to get a more dramatic look rather than multiple mascaras.

You Never Leave Your Dorm Room Without a Full Face
Oh, ladies, we know this can be a toughie. Since it is your first experience living with potential BFs, you want to look your best. But the truth is, you don’t need to put on some mascara and lipstick to visit your friend’s dorm on the other side of the building. Don’t put your mind or face through that stress. Let your skin -- and the real you -- breathe. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised when you still get compliments with nothing but a fresh face.

You Constantly Retouch
If your friends automatically know they can find you between classes in the bathroom retouching, it is important to check that you’re not overdoing it. It’s likely you did not need to powder your nose an hour after you applied your makeup or apply more blush. Remember, you are trying to keep it pretty and professional, so invest in some Smashbox primer, and be confident that you’ll be covered for hours.

Your Makeup Transfers
Finding makeup smears on your phone and clothes means you didn’t set your makeup well. We recommend Makeup Forever’s translucent powder to keep everything in place.

Remember beauties, we are not asking you ditch your smoky eyes and red lips, but we want you to look the best overall without your effort being obvious. And most importantly, you still want to look like you at the end of the day.
