The College Girl's Guide to Touching Up Your Makeup

We’ve all had those days when our schedules are packed from morning to night. Days like these can be hectic and long, but that doesn’t mean that you have to let your makeup go by the wayside. So when you’re running from class to class with five minutes or less to spend on touching up your makeup, here are four quick pick-me-ups that can freshen your face in an instant. All you need to do is blot, powder, curl and gloss!

Blot

As the day goes on your face produces oil, which can cause your makeup to become streaky. Without disturbing and removing all of the makeup you’ve applied at the beginning of the day, use a blotting sheet to get rid of the shine. The key to using blotting paper is to blot instead of wiping to remove the oil. Gently pat the skin to absorb the oil and dispose of the used tissue. An affordable option is Sonia Kashuk’s Matte Blotting Papers ($7), which you can purchase at Target. They come in a sleek white pad that is small and perfect for bringing on the go.

Powder

On the face I prefer to use a powder that is not translucent because it can fill in any places where your foundation has rubbed or streaked. If you do not use foundation with greater coverage on a daily basis then you can opt for a translucent powder to help get rid of the shine. If you choose to use a colored powder use one in a compact with a mirror and sponge applicator. MAC’s Studio Fix Powder ($25) comes in a wide range of shades and has a mirror and separate compartment for your sponge.

Curl

Whether or not you have applied mascara on your eyelashes, curling them between classes or in the middle of your day can give your eyes the lift that they need. Even one coat of mascara can cause your lashes to sag and lower throughout the day. By curling them, you open up your eyes which can make you look more alert and awake.

You don’t have to buy an expensive eyelash curler to take with you on the go. Using an inexpensive option from a drugstore is just as effective and can get the job done without you having to worry about it getting crushed in your bag. Try Revlon’s Eyelash Curler ($5), also found at any drugstore near you.

Gloss

To finish off your look apply a gloss or a moisturizing lip balm to your lips. This can make a dramatic difference in freshening up your face. One of my favorite lip products to use on the go is Carmex's Moisture Plus Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm SPF 15 ($4). This is one of the best products to use because it gives long-lasting hydration and protection and it comes in clear as well as four other sheer shades for all skin tones. It’s extremely small, so it’s perfect to throw in your purse as you’re heading out the door.

It’s a good idea to carry a small makeup bag with you in your bag when you know you’ll be on campus for a long period of time or have classes back-to-back. Even if you just pack these four essentials, you’ll be set for the whole day!
