4 Ways to Wear Tights This Winter

This season, tights are all the rage. Whether lace, sweater, patterned or solids, they’ll keep your legs warm while you’re enjoying the brisk air.

Jewel Tone

Although neon colors like yellows and oranges can come off a bit harsh, jewel tones are the perfect addition to your wardrobe this holiday season. Channel your inner Rachel Berry and choose opaque jewel tone tights to make a statement while also flattering your figure. A fun addition to an all-black outfit or a subtle accessory to a sparkly skirt on New Year’s Eve, emerald, sapphire and ruby shades slim the legs and look ladylike and fun.

Layering Lace and Nude

Although walking outside in lightweight tights during the winter season seems worse than ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas without Elf, layering skin-colored tights underneath a pair of lace tights will add the fashion flair without the frostbite.

Sweater Tights

Sweater tights were made for this season. Mixing and matching sweater tights with patterned or textured clothing is the best way to go to avoid overkill of any one material. Neutral colors like cream and grey will match any winter coat, and allow for fun fair isle patterns.

Patterned Tights

Although colored tights can be worn with any kind of heels, patterned tights are a great opportunity to showcase a fabulous pair of boots. Imagine a red dress with lace tights and boots. You’ll steal the show, and everyone will wish they could steal your look. Fuchsia berry tights also tend to look great with almost all colors, even other shades of purple and pink. And if you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to bring out your LBD for holiday festivities, just pair it with green tights and a plaid bow and you’re all set!

Taking care of your tights might seem complicated, but it’s simple if you just take a few precautions. Keeping your tights in separate zip-lock bags will keep them from getting tangled or getting rips and pulls from friction. Another tip is to make sure you don’t have any hangnails or rough cuticles that could potentially hurt you or cause a run in the nylon. Quickly spraying your tights with hairspray after you put them on will help stiffen the fabric as well.

After you’re done with your fabulous night out, make sure to hand-wash and air dry the tights so they don’t get destroyed in the washing machine!
