Summer is here and that means tank tops, sandals and shorts galore. But if you’re looking to ditch your classic jean shorts for something a little different, you are in luck. Colored bottoms have been a popular trend for the past year, and it’s easy to carry the trend into summer with a fun pair of colorful shorts.
So how do you style a pair of colored shorts? The options are limitless. Here are three outfit ideas to try as the weather starts to warm up.
1. With bright colors
Summer weather is a great excuse to work a little color into your wardrobe. Pair your favorite colored shorts with a contrasting bright top, like a pair of orange denim shorts and a bright yellow top. Add a geometric necklace and strappy sandals for an up-to-date and polished summer look. You could also add a little color with accessories, shoes or a bright bag. Either way, don’t be afraid to embrace a slightly brighter look this summer season.
2. With a printed top
You can easily dress down a pair of colored shorts with a fun, printed top, whether it be floral, stripes or any other print you might have hanging in your closet. A pair of mint shorts would look adorable paired with an Aztec print top, sweet floral earrings and sandals for a day out and about.
3. With a chambray top
A classic chambray shirt is just as much of a staple in a college girl’s wardrobe as a good as a pair of colored shorts is. That makes the two a match made in sartorial heaven. Chambray is great for warm weather since the material is made out of light and breathable cotton. Pair your favorite colored shorts with a chambray button-down, wide belt and metallic sandals for a preppy and polished look for summer.
Colored shorts are a great way to add a little color to your summer wardrobe and an alternative to your boring, old denim cut-offs.
