The Look for Less: Katy Perry at the Grammy Awards

Music’s biggest night certainly lived up to its name this year. The 2013 Grammy Awards were packed full of amazing performances, numerous awards and of course, plenty of fashion. The Grammys have been known to have some memorable fashion moments, usually involving a serious amount of skin. This year, CBS ordered the enforcement of a dress code that would prevent any unwanted slips for the both stars and the network. Luckily for fashion lovers everywhere, the music industry’s finest still delivered some show-stopping looks.

One notable ensemble came courtesy of Katy Perry, who stated that she was channeling Priscilla Presley in a mint green Gucci gown that featured a keyhole cutout and embellished neckline. Katy’s mod look is in line with her recent departure from the over-the-top outfits that she was first known for, and it definitely worked for her. The color brings spring to mind, and the embellishments at the neckline add some retro flair to the dress. The long sleeves and high neck of this gown are balanced by its keyhole accent, which adds some serious va-va-voom to this look.

3. Top from Forever 21, $19.80
4. Bag from Express, $69.90
5. Jeans from American Eagle, $34.99

This cheerful mint dress is a friendly reminder that spring is right around the corner, so it serves as great inspiration for a transition outfit that can be worn with a jacket at the tail-end of winter, and without one when the weather starts to lighten up. A mint chiffon button down is a great way to get the fresh color of Katy’s dress, and a blue and gold statement necklace perfectly echoes the blue and gold embellishments that adorn the neckline of the gown. Because this necklace is such a strong accent, it’s really the only accessory you’ll need for this look! A pair of simple skinny jeans keep things casual, and brown ankle boots and a brown leather bag with a little fringe add a touch of boho to the outfit, while the neutral color keeps the look grounded.

Katy’s beauty look is just as important as her dress in this case, as it does not overwhelm her look, but instead perfectly accents it. Her golden brown eyeshadow picks up the gold embellishments on her dress, and her nude lip echoes the mod vibe that she was going for. A similar gold and brown eyeshadow look would work well with this casual outfit as well, as the gold would pull out the gold in the necklace and the brown would accent the bag and boots. Keep the rest of your makeup soft and sweet, and you’ve got a look that’s great for any season!
