College Dating: 3 Rules For Running Into Your Ex

Running into an ex-boyfriend can be uncomfortable to say the least, but by following these simple rules, your encounter may not be as awkward.

1. Be Confident: Even if running into an ex-boyfriend is unexpected, stay confident. Hold your head up high and don't run away. If you know you will be running into your ex, take some time to put yourself together so you feel good about your appearance. That way, especially if the break-up is recent, you can show him that you still got it!

2. Keep It Classy: Love hurts, break-ups are the worst, and relationships are tricky, but no matter what terms you guys ended on, know that nothing can compete with class. Even if your ex is being completely immature about the situation, it doesn’t mean you need to stoop to his level. If you run into your ex-boyfriend, be cordial and polite even if it makes your stomach churn. At the end of the day, although it may be painful, it takes strength and courage to greet the guy who broke your heart, or vice-versa, with kindness. For specifics on how to be a classy lady, watch any Audrey Hepburn or Elizabeth Taylor movie.

3. Treat Yourself: To reward yourself for being a classy lady, buy yourself a drink from Starbucks or your favorite coffee shop. This is a simple way to congratulate yourself for a job well done and reward yourself for taking the high road. It’s really easy to be hard on yourself, especially after a break-up, so it’s important to relish in the little victories and pat yourself on the back every once in a while.

The dreaded ex encounter is usually never fun, but just remember that time heals. Who knows, maybe while rewarding yourself at Starbucks, you’ll finally get that hot barista to ask you out on a date!
