CG's Fashion Interview with Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen is more than just the pop star behind our favorite song “Call Me Maybe;” she is also a fierce fashionista! The Vancouver B.C. native describes herself as “a hippie,” and that fun-loving, boho edge is clear in all of Carly’s looks. However, this chart-topping songstress believes in more than just bohemian pieces…she wants her overall style to have a feminine and classic vibe. Carly’s look is definitely all her own and she makes her mark with her must-have pieces like red stilettos and little black dresses.

How would you categorize your style?
CRJ: I would say I’m kind of a hippie!

What’s one item of clothing you cannot live without?
CRJ: I have this really great pair of baggy leather shorts that I just love. I love how versatile they are! I also love stilettos. For performances when I am dancing on stage I think they look really cool.

What is your favorite accessory?
CRJ: My mom has a jewelry line, and I love her pieces. I love any of my mom’s stuff…especially earrings!

What are your beauty product must-haves?
CRJ: I really love a candy apple red lipstick. I like that I can wear no eye makeup, but have a really bold lip and still have a really fun look. 

What are your favorite shops?
CRJ: I love vintage shops….they have crazy, old pieces and beautiful gems. 

What is one of your fashion rules?
CRJ: Just because something is really trendy does not mean it is right for you. What is important in fashion is not just what clothes you are attracted to, but what clothes fit your body and give you a nice shape.

What do you like to wear for an evening out?

CRJ: I’m all about a little black dress! You can’t really go wrong with it.

If you were going to start your own designer label, what would you call it?

CRJ: For a while I wanted to have my own lingerie line. I wanted to call it “Yum.”

What celebrity’s style do you admire?

CRJ: I like Victoria Beckham’s latest collection. She has very flattering clothing.

What is your favorite outfit right now?

CRJ: I have this petal skirt that looks like a flower with this black little blouse.

What is your favorite perfume right now?

CRJ: I really like Daisy by Marc Jacobs. It is pretty and summery.

Are there any beauty products you can’t go anywhere without?

CRJ: My number one beauty love is lip stain. I like that the Revlon Just Bitten lip stain lasts all day.

What is your favorite kind of shoes?

CRJ: Generally I like stilettos. I think that red stilettos and a little black dress are really chic. I have this pair of Miz Mooz heels that I wear all the time!

What is your fashion mantra?

CRJ: Don’t box yourself into a certain style. You should feel free to play with different looks. Overall, have confidence with your style.

How do you like to style your hair?

CRJ: I’m all about a high, messy bun, but if I am going out I like pin straight hair or messy beach waves!
