3 Easy Dinner Party Ideas

Throwing a college dinner party doesn’t have to be a costly affair. Break away from the wallet pinching idea of gourmet hors d'oeurves, sipping wine on long-stemmed wine glasses (Olivia Pope style), and swanky three course meals. But don't fret—your Friday night dinner party can be just as memorable with a little creativity and gastronomic goodness (yes, even on a college budget and in a 12’ by 19’ foot dorm room). Impress your friends with these three tasty, affordable, and easy dinner ideas that’ll turn these classic favorites into an interactive, cost-effective experience. With a make your own tacos, pizza, and sundae station, there’s no going wrong. 

1. Taco Station

  • Shredded ice berg lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Yellow Onion
  • Cilantro
  • Ground beef (or any protein of your choice)
  • Garlic
  • Tortilla
  • Jalapeños
  • Sour Cream
  • Limes
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Cayenne
  1. Drizzle olive oil into a large pan on medium heat. Pour in half of a chopped yellow onion and two minced garlic cloves. Let simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  2. Pour in beef or any protein of your choice with onions and garlic. Add a pinch of salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Squeeze one whole lime on top and let cook for about 12-15 minutes until fully browned.
  3. Heat up tortillas in a separate pan on low-medium heat. Flip tortillas on either side until warm.
  4. Place chopped tomato, lettuce, onion, and cilantro into separate bowls alongside the sour cream, salsa, jalapeños and quarter cut limes.
  5.  Once meat is ready, place in a bowl alongside the toppings and get started!

2. Pizza Station

  • Pizza dough
  • Rustica tomato marinara sauce (or any pre-made marinara of your choice)
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Pepperoni
  • Bacon
  • Olives
  • Bell Peppers
  • Mushrooms
  • Basil
  • Pineapple

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Pour the pizza sauce on your dough and sprinkle cheese to your liking. Top your own pizza with any topping you like.
  3. Place your pizza on a baking sheet in the oven and let cook for 14-16 minutes until crust turns brown. 
  4. Take the pizza out and let rest for 3-4 minutes and then enjoy!

3. Sundae Station

  • Vanilla/Chocolate Ice Cream
  • Roasted sliced almonds
  • Chocolate chips
  • Caramel sauce
  • Sprinkles
  • Chopped Snickers, Twix (or any candy bar of your choice)
  • Cherries
  1. Pour sliced almonds into a small pan on medium heat until browned. 
  2. Place all ingredients into separate bowls and let your guests make their own sugary concoctions.
